Firmness & Feel of The DreamCloud Mattress

The DreamCloud mattress is designed for a luxury firm feel. The term luxury firm refers to mattresses engineered to provide ample support but still give sleepers a luxury feel. This is achieved through cushioning or padding, generally in the form of a pillow-top or premium comfort layer.

We think this rating from DreamCloud is pretty accurate. We rated it a 6-6.5 out of 10 in regards to firmness. We experienced a nice balance between support and comfort. That being said, we think it’s better suited to certain types of sleepers than others.

When determining if a mattress is the right fit for you, you’ll want to take into consideration your body weight and sleeping position. In this case, sleepers weighing less than 130lbs will be classified as lightweight, we’ll refer to sleepers between 130-230lbs as average weight, and those weighing 230lbs+ as heavy or plus. Let’s take a look!

Firmness Scale 1-10 highlights a 6.5 or medium to medium firm firmness.

Side Sleepers

Average weight and heavier sleepers should experience some nice initial relief of pressure through the hips and shoulders. Though strict side sleepers who prefer a softer mattress may want to take a look at our best mattresses for side sleepers. Lightweight side sleepers are likely to feel the DreamCloud is too firm to adequately relieve pressure in this sleep position.

Heavier sleepers, nearing or exceeding 300+lbs, may also find the DreamCloud to be too firm as they sink deeper into the layers of the DreamCloud mattress, meeting the resistance of the support layer. Sleepers in this weight range may wish to consider a mattress designed specifically for plus-sized individuals, such as the WinkBeds Plus.

Back Sleepers

The DreamCloud is perhaps best suited to back sleepers. Its medium to medium-firm feel makes it an ideal choice for sleepers of all body types who prefer this sleep position.

Lightweight back sleepers will stay lifted, sleeping “on” the mattress. While average and heavier individuals will experience a nice bit of give. Again, for those nearing 300+lbs, a mattress specifically designed for heavier individuals may be an ideal choice.

Stomach Sleepers

Overall, DreamCloud is a bit too soft for strict stomach sleepers that weigh more than 130lbs. In this position, our hips sank quite a bit, pulling the spine out of a healthy alignment. This can lead to back pain and stiffness.  Stomach sleepers in this weight range may want to check out the Helix Dawn or Saatva Classic (firm).

Lightweight stomach sleepers, on the other hand, should get on just fine with the DreamCloud mattress. With less body mass, sleepers in this weight range should stay “on top” of the mattress, rather than sinking into it.

Combination Sleepers

DreamCloud is a solid option for combination sleepers. The balance between the memory foam comfort layer and the pushback of the coils gives the DreamCloud a versatile feel, suitable for most sleep positions and body types. The bounciness of the coil construction provides ease of movement, allowing sleepers to easily transition from one position to the next without feeling stuck.

DreamCloud Mattress Performance

Couples shopping for a new mattress have a few more hurdles to jump in order to find the perfect fit. The most obvious is choosing a mattress firmness. If you are lucky, you and your partner prefer the same mattress firmness!

If you aren’t so lucky, you and your partner have contemplated sleeping in different beds just for a good night’s sleep. If you fall into the latter category you may wish to consider an adjustable air bed. These beds allow for dual-sided firmness adjustments.

Whatever category you fall into you’ll also want to pay attention to a few other details. Like how well the mattress isolates motion and if the mattress offers good edge support.

Is The DreamCloud Good For Hot Sleepers?

Innerspring and hybrid mattresses are often an excellent choice for the hot sleeper. This certainly holds true for the DreamCloud. The coil construction allows for ample airflow, while gel-infused memory foam reduces heat retention.

The cashmere blend mattress cover adds another layer of cooling benefits. Cashmere, like wool, is an excellent thermo-regulator. During warm temperatures cashmere is great at keeping you cool and dry. In cold temperatures, however, cashmere works to keep you warm and dry. This makes the DreamCloud a wonderful option for year-round comfort.

Motion Isolation

Unfortunately, innerspring and hybrid mattresses tend to not isolate motion very well. DreamCloud does utilize individually wrapped coils which helps dampen motion transfer a bit but if you are a light sleeper, easily prone to disturbances, this may not be the best fit. If good motion isolation is at the top of your list you may want to consider a memory foam mattress.

Edge Support

Edge Support on the DreamCloud was decent. We did feel some compression lying on, or near the edge of the mattress, but did not feel like we would fall out of bed. This means couples should comfortably be able to utilize the full surface area of the mattress. This is especially important if you are sharing a smaller bed such as a full or queen-size DreamCloud.

Sitting on the edge of the mattress was a different story; we felt quite a bit of compression. While this won’t affect your sleep experience it may be troublesome if you rely on the edge of the mattress to get into, or out of the bed. This may be more important for seniors, or those with disabilities, or injuries.

DreamCloud Mattress Construction

DreamCloud features a premium 5 layer hybrid design. It is 14” in height and made with CertiPUR-US certified foams. Foams with this certification are free of harsh chemicals such as ozone depleters, mercury, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and more.

While some off-gassing may still be present, mattresses with this certification are considered safer for you, your family, and the environment. Let’s dive into the DreamCloud layers!

Cashmere Blend Mattress Cover -

Quilted foam and cashmere work together to provide a soft to the touch, plush cover. Cashmere is not only luxuriously soft, but it is also moisture-wicking and breathable, helping to regulate body temperature all night long. Additionally, it’s hypoallergenic and naturally fire-resistant.

High-Density Gel Memory Foam -

This memory foam layer provides sleepers with a nice bit of contouring, relieving painful pressure points. Gel further helps to keep sleepers cool and mitigate heat buildup.

Low Motion Transfer Support Foam -

Polyfoam makes up the transition layer and provides a buffer between you and the coils beneath. It is also designed to keep sleepers from sinking too deeply into the mattress. This helps to ensure proper spinal alignment and reduced motion transfer.

Individually Encased Innerspring Coil System -

Individually wrapped coils provide excellent breathability and enhanced airflow, further helping to regulate temperature. Coils move independently of one another which also improves motion isolation.

Stay Put Foam Solid Base Foundation -

This foam support layer supports the top layers and ensures the DreamCloud mattress performs at its best.

Mattress Handles -

One last thing we always like to point out is if a mattress is made with handles. Moving a mattress around is no easy task, especially mattresses made with coils. DreamCloud does come with mattress handles which is a tremendous help when setting up or moving your mattress. DreamCloud shouldn’t be flipped but it can be rotated to help prevent sagging and having the handles makes this easier tenfold!

DreamCloud Mattress Purchase Details

Shopping online for a mattress can be intimidating. How do you know if it will be comfortable once you get it inside your home? What happens if it isn’t the right fit for you? Most bed-in-a-box brands offer lengthy sleep trials, free shipping and returns, and excellent warranties so you can feel confident in your purchase decisions.

Sleep Trial

When it comes to sleep trials, DreamCloud blows the competition away. Most mattress companies offer between 90-120 days for you to try out your new bed. DreamCloud, like Level and Nectar, offers a 365-night sleep trial.

They do ask that you try the mattress for a minimum of 30 days. This is fairly common as adjusting to a new mattress can take time. This is especially true if your old bed was beginning to sag or dip.

Warranty

DreamCloud also offers one of the best warranties in the industry. When you purchase a DreamCloud mattress enjoy a Lifetime warranty. It covers defects in workmanship and materials, including impressions or indentations greater than 1.5”.

In order for the warranty to be valid, you must pair your DreamCloud with a suitable bed frame or foundation. Like most mattress warranties, it is only good for the original purchaser. For more details check out the full warranty.

Shipping and returns are FREE within the contiguous United States. Shipping is also available in Alaska and Hawaii for an additional fee of $150. Expect delivery to take about 2-5 days from the date of shipment. Your new mattress should arrive via FedEx ground delivery, contactless, and direct to your doorstep.

Compatible Bed Frames and Mattress Foundations

We mentioned above that in order for your warranty to remain valid you must pair it with a suitable bed base. So, what type of bed frame or foundation is appropriate and won’t void your warranty? DreamCloud states a mattress must be “continuously supported by a matching foundation or adjustable bed base with a proper bed frame sufficient to support the collective weight of the Mattress and user(s).”

This may sound a bit vague but in general, most mattress companies suggest using a solid surface. This can include an adjustable base, platform bed, box spring,or some other sort of traditional bed frame. If pairing your mattress with a slatted frame you may want to reach out to DreamCloud directly for more information. Many companies will advise that slats are no greater than 3” apart.

DreamCloud does sell a selection of bed frames or you may wish to check out these best adjustable bases on Amazon.
