Construction of the Original Casper Pillow
Casper designed it’s pillow to have a universal appeal. This can be challenging as needs change from one sleep position to the next. However, Casper has attempted to tick as many boxes as possible to help you get a better night’s sleep.
The Original Casper pillow features a pillow-in-pillow design. The inner pillow is designed to offer support while the outer pillow is soft and fluffy for comfort. Both the inner and outer pillow contain low friction, silky polyester fibers that offer pressure-relief while at the same time providing a springy responsiveness.
The pillow features a 2 inch wide gusset that runs along the sides to create additional support and keep the pillow from falling flat. It’s also meant to help keep the neck in better alignment. More on that in a bit!
No more having to flip your pillow to the “cool side”. The outer casing of the pillow is 100% cotton with a breathable percale weave to help keep your pillow cool throughout the night.
The outer pillow has a zip that surrounds 2 sides of the pillow allowing for easy removal of the inner pillow, or for simply fluffing up the insides. Once the inner pillow has been removed you can re-zip the outer pillow and machine wash it cold on a gentle cycle. Tumble dry on low making sure the pillow is 100% dry before removing.

How does it feel?
I’m accustomed to sleeping on a memory foam pillow so my initial impressions were a bit uncertain. The pillow doesn’t offer the same dense consistency I was used to with my memory foam. In fact, I thought the pillow compressed quite flat and was concerned it wouldn’t be a good match for me. However, after fluffing it up a bit and giving it some time to fully expand I came back to it and my feelings took a 180 degree turn.
It reminded me of a down pillow but with more substance. The pillow cover has a cool, crisp feel that reminds me of a good night’s sleep at a luxury hotel. It’s definitely a pillow you want to snuggle up with.
Now, as much as I enjoyed propping myself up to watch a movie on it, the true test is waking up after 8 hours pain free. Where the Casper pillow really excels is back sleeping. It’s got a medium to medium-soft supportive feel that does a great job of relieving pressure around the back of the head and creating a gentle cradle. Unlike memory foam, the contouring offers a light, fluffy feel and doesn’t sleep hot.

Side sleepers may find the pillow to be just a bit too soft to properly support the neck. Especially if coming from a memory foam pillow. You may be accustomed to a bit of a denser profile. That being said, if you know you prefer a lower profile or softer pillow for side sleeping this could be a great choice. It’s also a great pillow to use in combination with other pillows!
Stomach sleepers may be a bit divided on this pillow. I spend a lot of time sleeping on my stomach and personally loved it for stomach sleeping. The pillow does compress quite a bit so even though it looks quite lofty it doesn’t force your neck uncomfortably upwards. However, if you prefer a pillow with little to no profile you could still find this a bit too full for comfort. That being said, the inner pillow is removable so you could use the outer pillow for just a touch of luxurious softness.
You will notice a bit of a crinkly sound when moving about, though this didn’t bother me (again it reminds me of luxury hotel beds), if you are a light sleeper this might disturb you a bit.

Bottom Line
Overall it was a surprisingly comfortable pillow that could be a great choice for a lot of people.
