Inside the Casper Brand

When you think of a Bed-in-a-box brand, the first company that might come to mind is Casper. Their website states that the original Casper mattress is loved by over one million people and has an award-winning design. They recently updated their mattress to include zoned support, which we will explain below. Let’s see if this mattress lives up to the hype everyone is talking about in our Casper Mattress Review.

Does the most popular Bed-in-a-box brand live up to its hype?

If you’re in the market for a mattress you have likely come across an ad for Casper. This bed-in-a-box giant has made their mark on this industry and has proved to be one of the leading companies by selling over $1 million in their first 28 days of business. Their headquarters are in NYC along with their Dreamery. Yes, I said Dreamery, not creamery. At the Dreamery, you can book a 45 minute nap session in one of their cozy nooks. Along with your own futuristic sleep pod, you are also provided comfy pajamas to change into, beverages and access to Headspace, a sleepcast to help you get into your Zen mode.

Casper mattresses are made in the U.S.A. in their Georgia and Pennsylvania factories. Not only are their products made in the U.S.A., but they also use foam that is certified safe by CertiPUR-US. With the very low V.O.C. rating, you can rest assured that when this mattress comes into your home, there will be no dangerous toxins spilling into the air that could cause cancer.

Zoned Support Construction In The Casper Mattress

The Original Casper mattress is a foam mattress with added support in the lumbar region. It also features cooling properties with their open-cell foam.

  • Stretchy soft cover: The cover is a polyester blend that has a soft to the touch feel and is stretchy to allow your body to move around the mattress without it bunching underneath you. It can also be unzipped and removed easily for spot cleaning.
  • Open-cell foam: This layer has a latex foam feel and is breathable with the open-cell foam. This will assist in keeping the sleeper cool throughout the night and has enough buoyancy to easily move around the mattress.
  • Memory foam: When your body sinks into this layer it will move into it slowly and relieve pressure where you need it.
  • Zoned Support foam: This poly foam has three different sections to specifically target your core, where you are likely to need extra support. The foam in the middle of the bed is firmer to help support your hips and provide proper spine alignment.
  • Base foam: The High Density foam provides a solid sleep surface.

Casper's Supportive Memory Foam Feel

The Casper mattress was designed with your curves in mind. When you first lay on the mattress you will feel immediate pressure relief and at the same time support in the lumbar region. They achieve this by having the zoned support in their 3rd layer. We were truly impressed with this added benefit. Often times when Jason lays on his side on a mattress he will feel pressure in his shoulders. With the softer zone, you are able to sink in a little more in your shoulders and still have support in your hips where you tend to need more support. The top layer has a quick responsive feel and the layer underneath is slower to allow you to sink into the mattress even more. This will provide great pressure relief, without making you feel stuck in the mattress.

Side sleepers – When laying on your side you will feel a lot of support in your hips and pressure relief in your shoulders. Casper is great for side sleepers.

Back sleepers – Casper also performed well for sleeping on your back. Going back to that zoned support it really makes a difference. That being said, some heavy sleepers who prefer a firm mattress might find the WinkBeds Plus or the Helix Plus a better fit. Both of these mattresses are designed specifically for plus-sized individuals weighing more than 230 lbs.

Stomach sleepers – Casper did well for all sleepers, even stomach, who typically need a much firmer surface to sleep on. The extra support in the middle really helped for giving you the support you need to sleep on your stomach.

Overall, this was one of the most comfortable and versatile bed-in-a-box mattresses we have tried so far.

Firmness Of The Casper Mattress

The Casper mattress is not too hard and not too soft. We rated it a 6 on the firmness scale with a nice medium feel. That being said, it might be too soft for some back and stomach sleepers who prefer a firmer feel.

Is Casper Good For Couples?

We felt that the Casper mattress performed very well in the motion transfer category. There are multiple layers of foam in the bed that help dampen any movement from your partner. One of those layers is memory foam which typically does really well to isolate motion. Not being able to feel your partner move around at night is a great benefit for couples.

Edge Support in the Casper Mattress

When you sit on the edge of the bed, you do feel it compress a bit. That being said, we felt that the edge support was just ok on the Casper mattress. Most all mattresses with memory foam perform below average in this category.

Casper's Customer Service

Casper has sold millions of mattresses and their customer service rating is still very good. Everyone will have different opinions of mattress because our body types and shapes are all so different. That being said, not everyone will like the Casper mattress, however, they should be satisfied with their customer service. I read many reviews on Casper and most were raving about how comfortable the mattress is. There were some individuals that did not like the mattress, and even though they were unhappy with the product, they said the customer service was great.

Casper Mattress Review Conclusion

We recommend the Casper mattress if:

  • All sleep positions.  Casper’s multi-zone foam design provides ample support in the lumbar region while providing plenty of pressure relief.
  • You sleep with a partner or a pet.  Casper presented very little motion transfer!
  • You like to sleep “on” the mattress as opposed to “in”.

Casper might not be the right fit if:

  • You want a classic memory foam feel.
  • You’re on a very tight budget.

    Hi Sophia,

Casper is one of the most versatile mattreses we have tested and definitely could be a good choice for you. It utilizes a multi-zone construction that offers more pressure relief through the hips and shoulders while remaining a firm support throughout the lumbar. This should allow the mattress to accomodate both you and your husband’s sleep styles. Plus, Casper is great on motion transfer so you won’t experience as much disturbance if you or your partner tosses and turns during the night!
