The DreamCloud Premier's Firmness & Feel

The DreamCloud Premier is a medium-firm (6.5) mattress that provides excellent pressure relief without compromising support. Many mattress companies claim their mattresses are designed for universal comfort, but I find this isn’t often the case. The DreamCloud Premier, however, is one of the few mattresses we’ve reviewed that works for most sleep positions and body types. Let’s take a look!

DreamCloud Premier mattress review

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers tend to experience discomfort in the shoulder area due to how they position their arms beneath their body while sleeping. This can lead to shoulder pain or even numbness in your arms. For this reason, side sleepers generally prefer softer mattresses.

While the DreamCloud Premier is a medium-firm mattress, it’s still a surprisingly good fit for most side sleepers. Though it might be a touch too firm for lightweight sleepers (under 130lbs), average and heavy sleepers should be quite pleased with the contouring and pressure relief the DreamCloud Premier provides.

Back Sleepers

For back sleepers, a medium to medium-firm mattress is best to help prevent back and neck pain. A soft mattress—while often seeming like the obvious choice—can cause discomfort by not providing adequate support.

The DreamCloud Premier may not have the deep sinkage or hug that some people like in a bed, but the mattress offers a balance between pressure relief and support, which is ideal for back sleepers.

This is easily one of my favorite mattresses for back sleepers! I felt weightless when lying on my back; my pressure points were evenly distributed, and the mattress kept my spine properly aligned.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers require adequate support beneath the hips to keep the spine in a neutral position. Firm mattresses with minimal cushioning are ideal, as they prevent the hips from sinking into the bed and placing strain on your lower back.

Sleepers weighing less than 230lbs should get enough support from the DreamCloud Premier. However, the DreamCloud Premier may feel too soft for heavy sleepers, lacking appropriate support for a healthy spine.

DreamCloud Premier Mattress Performance

Hybrid mattresses are known for regulating temperature better than all-foam mattresses. However, while the plush layers of the DreamCloud Premier provide nice pressure relief, they did trap a bit of heat.

The DreamCloud Premier doesn’t have any cooling technologies to help combat this problem. If you’re a hot sleeper who suffers from overheating or night sweats, we recommend looking at our best cooling mattresses.

Or consider pairing your mattress with cooling accessories designed to help regulate your temperature, such as our favorite, the Pod Thermo Cover.

Edge Support

Good edge support can make your mattress feel larger, while poor edge support can do the opposite. Edge support can also indicate how easy it is to get into and out of bed.

We did experience significant compression when seated along the perimeter of the DreamCloud Premier mattress. However, we felt supported when lying near the edge of the bed. This permitted us to use the entire surface area of the mattress without fear of falling out of bed; this let’s us know the DreamCloud Premier should work well for couples!

Motion Transfer

Motion isolation is the ability of a mattress to absorb movement. For couples, it’s one of the most important features to consider when shopping for a new mattress. A mattress with minimal motion transfer can greatly improve your sleep quality.

Memory foam mattresses generally isolate motion better than hybrid or innerspring mattresses. The plush foam comfort layers of the DreamCloud Premier were particularly effective at absorbing movement, minimizing our partner’s movement throughout the night.

Ease of Movement

For combination sleepers, ease of movement is particularly important. If you change sleep positions frequently throughout the night, you’ll want to know you can move around easily without feeling trapped or stuck in your mattress.

The DreamCloud Premier is made with individually wrapped coils, giving the mattress a responsive, bouncy feel, greatly improving mobility. Normally, this would increase motion transfer, but as discussed above, the plush Euro top dampens motion. As a result, The DreamCloud Premier is an excellent choice for couples and combination sleepers.

Off-gassing is the process by which volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are released into the air. VOCs come from synthetic materials, such as polyurethane foam. These chemicals can cause headaches, dizziness, irritability, and respiratory irritation in humans, especially those with asthma or allergies.

Thankfully, DreamCloud uses CertiPUR-US certified foams. This certification ensures that the foams do not contain harmful chemicals, such as formaldehyde and heavy metals. If you notice an odor after unboxing, leave the mattress in a well-ventilated area until it dissipates, this generally takes less than 24 hours.

DreamCloud Premier Mattress Construction

The DreamCloud Premier is a 14” hybrid mattress. It’s made with individually wrapped coils, poly foams, and a quilted pillow top giving this mattress a luxury hotel feel. It’s comprised of the following layers:

  • Cover – This cashmere blend mattress cover is soft, moisture-wicking, and hypoallergenic.
  • Euro Top – You’ll find 1” of pressure-relieving memory foam and 1” of supportive soft foam quilted into the pillow top. This layer helps target stubborn pressure points and provides gentle contouring.
  • Transition Layer – This 2.5” polyfoam layer prevents excessive sinkage and promotes a healthy spine. It helps dampen motion from the coils beneath and ensures sleepers don’t feel the coils throughout the night.
  • Support System – The DreamCloud Premier is made with 8.5” inches of individually wrapped steel coils for breathable, responsive support. Thicker coils provide reinforced edge support around the perimeter of the mattress. Lastly, a 1” firm polyfoam layer provides stability and structure for the mattress to rest on.
  • Mattress Handles – The handles make it significantly easier to move the mattress around; this is particularly beneficial when setting up your mattress.

Is The DreamCloud Premier Right For You?

The DreamCloud Premier is an excellent option for couples thanks to its reinforced edge support, minimal motion transfer, and balanced feel. This versatile mattress should work well for most sleep positions, providing even weight distribution, gentle cushioning, and solid support. Additionally, those seeking a luxury, hotel-style feel will appreciate its Euro Top design.

However, hot sleepers may find the DreamCloud Premier a bit warm, and those seeking a classic, slow-response memory foam feel may want to consider other options. Overall, the DreamCloud Premier is an excellent all-around mattress that balances support, comfort, and luxury.

DreamCloud vs DreamCloud Premier

What is the difference between The DreamCloud and The DreamCloud Premier? Let’s take a look!

  • Both are hybrids mattresses constructed with coils and foam.
  • The DreamCloud is more affordable than the Premier. In fact, it’s one of the best cheap mattresses we’ve reviewed.
  • The DreamCloud Premier includes a Euro Top for additional comfort and pressure relief. The DreamCloud does not. As a result, it has a firmer mattress feel than the Premier.
  • Less contouring and cushioning means The DreamCloud does a better job of keeping hot sleepers cool throughout the night.
