Specializing in hybrid mattresses, Brooklyn Bedding excels in combining comfort with support. We’ll explore its unique features, from firmness to construction, ensuring you make an informed decision about this top-rated mattress.

YouTube Review Of The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress

Aurora Luxe Mattress Firmness And Feel

The Brooklyn Aurora hybrid mattress offers three levels of firmness: soft (3), medium (5), and firm (7). We reviewed the soft variant, which was a true plush mattress, we rated it a 3.0 for firmness, highlighting its superior pressure relief and contouring capabilities.

This mattress impressed us with its luxurious feel and high-quality finishes, providing immediate comfort for sensitive areas like the hips and shoulders. It’s ideal for side sleepers or anyone seeking relief from pressure points without the sinking sensation often associated with plush memory foam layers.

Body Type & Sleep Position

Your sleep experience can vary significantly based on your preferred position and body weight. Below, we’ll discuss what to expect depending on your preferred sleep position. We’ll also cover recommendations based on your weight.

Generally, individuals are categorized by weight into lightweight (under 130 lbs), average weight (130 to 230 lbs), and heavy (over 230 lbs). Each category has specific needs in terms of mattress support and comfort. For instance, firmer mattresses better serve heavier individuals by preventing excessive sinking and ensuring proper spinal alignment. In contrast, lighter individuals may find softer mattresses more comfortable.

Side Sleepers

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress stands out for its contouring and pressure relief, effectively easing discomfort in sensitive areas. Its responsive foam layers swiftly conform to your body’s curves, offering targeted relief for common pressure points such as the hips and shoulders. This makes it a great option for individuals who suffer from chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia and arthritis. We also recommend the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress in its soft version for side sleepers.

That said, while it’s ideal for average and lightweight side sleepers, plus-sized sleepers may find the medium firmness option offers the added support they need.

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers may feel that the soft version of the Brooklyn Aurora mattress does not provide enough support. This lack of support can cause your body to become misaligned during the night, which may lead to back pain.

If you are a lightweight or average-weight individual who likes sleeping on your back, we recommend the medium option for better support. However, if you are a heavier sleeper, Brooklyn recommends the firm version instead of the medium.

Stomach Sleepers

The soft version of the Brooklyn Aurora may not offer sufficient support for stomach sleepers, potentially leading to discomfort. For those predominantly sleeping on their stomach, the firm version of the Brooklyn Aurora is recommended, catering to both average and lightweight individuals. Heavier stomach sleepers might find a mattress specifically designed for their needs, such as the Titan Plus Luxe, more appropriate due to its enhanced support features.

Combination Sleepers

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe suits combination sleepers well, thanks to its balanced, responsive design that facilitates easy position changes throughout the night. For those who frequently alternate between sleeping positions, the medium firmness of the Brooklyn Aurora is recommended. This option provides the necessary support to maintain proper spinal alignment. While plush and comfortable for side sleeping, the soft variant might not offer enough support for back and stomach sleepers, potentially leading to discomfort.

Is The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Good For Hot Sleepers?

The Aurora Luxe mattress is packed with cooling features, positioning it as one of the best cooling mattresses for hot sleepers. The mattress cover features GlacioTex technology, an innovative fabric designed to deliver a cooling sensation on contact.

Embedded with cooling gel beads, this material dynamically adjusts to your body temperature: liquefying to absorb excess body heat when your skin temperature rises and solidifying to conserve warmth as your temperature decreases. This smart fabric is engineered to maintain an optimal sleeping temperature, ensuring a comfortably cool nighttime experience.

Directly beneath the GlacioTex cover is CopperFlex, an antimicrobial foam layer infused with phase change material (PCM). This PCM complements the GlacioTex technology, enhancing the bed’s ability to regulate temperature and maintain a cool surface throughout the night. The core of the mattress features individually encased coils, promoting air circulation within the mattress to prevent heat buildup. Just above these coils is a layer of gel swirl memory foam, which aids in dispersing body heat, further contributing to the mattress’s overall cooling effect.

This multi-layered approach to temperature regulation—combining a cool-to-the-touch cover, temperature-responsive foam, breathable coils, and heat-dispersing gel memory foam—makes the Brooklyn Aurora an excellent choice for those seeking relief from sleeping hot.

Is The Brooklyn Aurora Luxe Good For Couples?

Edge Support

Edge support is crucial in determining a mattress’s ability to support weight, particularly along its perimeter evenly. Adequate edge support not only maximizes the usable surface area of the mattress but also contributes to a feeling of stability and spaciousness, an essential consideration for couples using smaller-sized beds.

Hybrids typically do well in this category, and Aurora Luxe is no exception. During my testing, I noticed minimal sinkage while seated at the edge, indicating the coil layers effectively support weight without compromising the bed’s structural integrity. Even when lying close to the edge, the sense of security was maintained, negating any fear of rolling off.

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation, or motion transfer, is another important factor for those sharing a bed, as it determines how much of your partner’s movements you’ll feel throughout the night. We did experience some motion transfer, meaning you may feel your partner, child, or pet moving around through the night.

This is common with hybrid mattresses, which are less efficient at isolating motion than memory foam mattresses or other options. However, the Aurora Luxe hybrid is designed with individually wrapped coils and thick foam layers to help mitigate excess motion transfer.

Hand-Crafted Construction

All Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are made in the U.S.A. with CertiPUR-US certified foams. Mattresses with this certification are made without harsh chemicals like formaldehyde, flame retardants, ozone depleters, and heavy metals. Let’s take a look inside!

Mattress Cover -

The Brooklyn Aurora mattress cover is made with GlacioTex, a unique fabric with cooling fibers to help you sleep cool all night.

Comfort Layers -

The mattress has a 1.5-inch CopperFlex foam layer enriched with phase change material (PCM) that is naturally antimicrobial and cooling. This plush layer provides pressure-relieving comfort to ensure a comfortable sleep surface.

Beneath the CopperFlex foam, 2 inches of Soft TitanFlex foam offers immediate response technology to quickly adjust to your body’s movements. This layer has a cloud-like feel and prevents the feeling of being stuck in the mud.

Transition Layer -

The mattress has a 1-inch layer of gel swirl memory foam that provides additional comfort and promotes cooling. This layer contours to your body shape and eases you into the support layer beneath, which consists of pocketed coils.

Support Layer -

This layer features 8″ zoned coils for optimal comfort and support. With up to 1,052 individually wrapped Ascension coils, the Brooklyn Aurora provides support and pressure relief where you need it most.

Lastly, the base layer is 0.75 inches of high-density foam that reinforces and enhances the mattress, ensuring added durability.

Mattress Handles -

It is worth noting that many mattresses do not come with handles, which can make them difficult to move. However, the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora mattress is an exception to this. It features convenient handles on its sides, making it much easier to move around, particularly if you have a Queen or King size mattress.

Off-Gassing

Off-gassing is a typical phenomenon in most bed-in-a-box mattresses. However, the degree of off-gassing may vary among different brands and models. We did encounter some initial off-gassing with the Brooklyn Aurora mattress. Nonetheless, any unpleasant odor should disappear entirely within a maximum of one to two days.

Sleep Trial

Brooklyn Bedding provides a generous 120-night sleep trial, allowing you to thoroughly test your new mattress. However, they require a minimum 30-day adjustment period before you can initiate a return or exchange, a common practice among bed-in-a-box companies to ensure you have ample time to adjust to your new mattress.

If you decide the mattress isn’t the right fit, Brooklyn Bedding offers options to enhance your sleep experience, such as exchanging your mattress for a different model or adding a mattress topper for extra comfort. These alternatives are designed to be more convenient and eco-friendly compared to a full mattress return. Please note, Brooklyn Bedding does apply a $99 disposal fee for returned mattresses.

Brooklyn Bedding provides free shipping within the contiguous United States. However, for shipping to Alaska and Hawaii, a shipping fee of $125 is applicable. Additionally, Brooklyn Bedding is one of the few mattress companies reviewed that ships to Canada, with shipping fees of $250. It is important to note that shipping charges are non-refundable for residents in Canada, Hawaii, and Alaska.

Compatible Bed Frames And Foundations

Maintaining the integrity of your mattress and ensuring its longevity requires the use of an appropriate foundation, which can also significantly impact the comfort and support it offers. A proper foundation not only extends the lifespan of your mattress but also prevents issues such as mold and mildew by facilitating adequate airflow.

Brooklyn Bedding specifies the use of compatible foundations to avoid voiding the mattress warranty. Acceptable options include box springs, platform bases, adjustable bases, and slatted frames, with a few stipulations for optimal support and airflow:

  • Airflow Necessity: Ensure the mattress is not constricted to prevent mold and mildew. Proper ventilation is crucial.
  • Slatted Frames: Slats should not exceed 3 inches apart to provide adequate support and must have a center support to prevent sagging.
  • Semi-Flexible Slats: These are permissible but must be used in conjunction with a rigid, non-flexible base or bunkie board for additional stability.
  • Box Springs: Opt for a sturdy, non-wire box spring to avoid potential damage to the mattress and ensure it’s supported correctly.

For those exploring new bed frames or adjustable bases, Brooklyn Bedding offers a selection designed to complement their mattresses effectively. Additionally, exploring best-selling adjustable bases on platforms like Amazon can provide further options to enhance your sleep experience, ensuring you choose a foundation that matches the specifications required by your mattress for optimal support and durability.

In conclusion, the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is an exceptional hybrid mattress that provides optimal comfort and support for all sleep positions. Its standout features include exceptional cooling, multiple firmness options, and superior pressure relief, making it an ideal choice for hot sleepers and those with hip or shoulder pain.

Additionally, the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe comes with a 120-night sleep trial, free shipping, and a 10-year warranty, ensuring that you have ample time to try it out and make an informed decision.
