Lull vs Nectar Firmness & Feel

Nectar

Nectar has a firmness feel of medium and offers a classic memory foam feel. The 3-inch thick memory foam comfort layer provides nice sinkage and body contouring which melted away pressure points through the shoulders and hips making it a great choice for side sleepers and pain sufferers.

Nectar could also be a great choice for back sleepers. It offers solid support, evenly distributing weight and promoting a healthy spine. The Nectar mattress gently cradles the hips in this sleep position, easing stress on the low back and reducing back pain.

Stomach sleepers benefit from a firmer mattress that offers less contouring and more support. This prevents the hips from sinking into the mattress and pulling the spine out of alignment. Unfortunately, Nectar may be too soft to provide adequate support when sleeping on your stomach. The firmer, more supportive feel of the Lull mattress is a better fit for stomach sleepers.

Lull

Lull is a medium-firm mattress best suited to combination, back, and stomach sleepers. The thin memory foam comfort layer offers some nice initial sinkage, but it is quickly met with resistance from the transition layer.

The balance between comfort and support is especially beneficial for back sleepers. We experienced nice relief through the hips and lower back while maintaining a healthy spine. The Lull mattress should also be firm enough for most stomach sleepers. Because the comfort layer is relatively thin, stomach sleepers should find that their hips stay lifted.

You’ll feel more like you’re sleeping “on” the mattress than “in” it allowing for excellent ease of movement. As a result, Lull is a great option for combination sleepers who favor sleeping on their back and/or stomach.

Unfortunately, we don’t think Lull is the best choice for side sleeping. Side sleepers aren’t likely to experience the pressure relief needed for this sleep position. Without it, side sleepers will experience pressure build-up resulting in aches and pain. Nectar is a better choice for strict side sleepers.

Nectar Mattress vs Lull Performance

Cooling

Memory foam mattresses have a reputation for trapping heat which can be a major concern when shopping for a new mattress. Nectar and Lull are made with gel-infused memory foam to combat this problem. Gel is commonly used to pull heat away from the bed and assist in cooling.

Nectar and Lull are made with a breathable mattress cover to help promote breathability and airflow. Both mattresses sleep temperature-neutral rather than cool, though Lull may have a slight advantage over Nectar because sleepers are less likely to sink deeply into the mattress. Edge Support

Edge support is another vital consideration for couples. Good edge support means sleepers can fully utilize the surface of the mattress without feeling like they will fall out of the bed. For couples sharing a smaller bed, such as a full or a queen, this may be especially important.

All-foam mattresses tend to suffer when it comes to edge support. While you aren’t likely to roll out of either of these beds, the Lull outperforms the Nectar mattress. However, this comes as no surprise, considering Lull is a firmer mattress with a thinner comfort layer.

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation is a particularly critical metric for couples and co-sleepers. Mattresses with lots of motion transfer mean sleepers are more likely to wake when their partner tosses or turns throughout the night.

All-foam mattresses offer excellent motion isolation and this is indeed true with both Nectar and Lull. Their all-foam construction helps to dampen motion transfer making it an excellent choice for couples or sleepers who share their bed with a child or pets.

Off-Gassing

Nectar and Lull are popular bed-in-a-box mattresses sold online and delivered directly to your doorstep. They are compressed, rolled, and packaged for delivery and must be unboxed upon arrival. During the unboxing process, you may notice a slight chemical-like odor. This is common for products made with foam and usually dissipates within 24-72 hours.

That being said, both mattresses are made with CertiPUR-US certified foams. Foams with this certification are made without formaldehyde, heavy metals, and harmful chemical flame retardants. These foams also meet low VOC emissions for indoor air quality.

Nectar vs Lull Mattress Construction

Nectar

Mattress Cover – This breathable, moisture-wicking outer layer is made with a poly-blend quilted cover.

Comfort Layer – 3” of Nectar’s Smart Layer with ActiveCool HD foam makes up the comfort layer. This gel-infused foam layer has a slow response feel that provides deep sinkage and body contouring for amazing pressure relief.

Transition Layer – This 2” dynamic support layer offers a quicker response to pressure providing a nice transition between the plush, contouring comfort layer on top and the firmer support layer beneath. Additionally, this layer helps sleepers avoid getting too bogged down into the mattress.

Support Layer – 7” of high-density foam makes up the base layer. This layer lends structure and support to the Nectar mattress.

Shift-Resistant Lower Cover – This keeps your mattress in place, preventing slipping between the bed and the bed frame.

  • Comfort Layer – A 1.5” layer of cooling, gel-infused memory foam engineered to pull heat away from your body while relieving pressure points.
  • Transition Layer – This 1.5-inch foam blend layer prevents sleepers from sinking into the mattress. This gives the Lull mattress an overall firmer than average mattress feel and allows for great ease of movement.
  • Support Layer – This firm support layer is made with 7 inches of polyurethane foam. It’s designed for support and durability.

Nectar vs Lull Purchase Details

Sleep Trial

Nectar and Lull have one of the longest sleep trials in the industry. While most mattresses come with a standard 90-120 day risk-free at-home trial, Nectar and Lull offer a whopping 365-night sleep trial. This provides the opportunity to see how your mattress will perform through the changing of the seasons, but it also lets you see how the foams hold up over time.

Adjusting to a new mattress can take time which is why Nectar does ask that customers keep the bed for a minimum of 30 days before initiating a return. On the other hand, Lull does not require a minimum trial period.

Warranty

Both brands offer a Lifetime warranty which includes manufacturing defects and mattress impressions greater than 1.5”. It’s important to choose a suitable foundation for your new mattress.

Many warranties are voided if not used with a proper, supportive foundation. Most mattresses can be paired with foundations, platforms, adjustable bases, or slatted metal frames. If you opt for a metal frame we recommend keeping slats at 3” or less apart.
