When it comes to hybrid mattresses, we usually think of a combination of foam and coils. But today, I want to share my personal experience with the Nolah Signature 12″ All-Foam Hybrid Mattress. It’s a unique mattress that uses only foam to replicate the responsive feel of coils.

In this review, I’ll dive into the construction, performance, and overall value of the Nolah Signature 12″ mattress. My goal is to help you figure out if it’s the right fit for your sleeping needs. So, let’s get started!

Nolah Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid Firmness & Feel

As someone who tends to sleep hot and suffers from pressure points as a side sleeper, finding the right mattress can be challenging. But after trying the Nolah Signature 12″, I can confidently say it’s one of the best mattresses I’ve ever slept on.

It has a medium-soft feel (4.5), ideal for strict side sleepers who need a plush surface to alleviate pressure points. However, the Nolah Signature 12″ could work well for back and combination sleepers who want a mattress that’s both soft and supportive. The AirFoam layer provides a comfortable and pressure-relieving surface that contours to your body, while the high-resilience foam base layer offers excellent support. Let’s break it down by sleeping position!

Side Sleepers

Its medium-soft feel was perfect for me as a side sleeper. The AirFoam layer did a great job of conforming to my body’s shape and relieving pressure. At the same time, the high-resilience foam base layer kept me supported and prevented me from sinking too deeply into the mattress. Paired with the Nolah Squishy Pillows, this was an excellent set up for side sleeping!

Side sleepers weighing less than 250 lbs should experience ample pressure relief through the hips and shoulders without compromising the necessary spinal support. In addition to strict side sleepers, combination sleepers are likely to really enjoy this mattress. The responsive nature of the Signature 12″ makes changing positions easy, a task many soft mattresses struggle with.

Back Sleepers

While I think the Signature 12″ Hybrid best suits side sleepers, I felt quite comfortable sleeping on my back. Nolah states that the Signature 12″ Hybrid could work well for lightweight back sleepers weighing less than 130 lbs. However, average-weight back sleepers who prefer a plush yet supportive mattress should still enjoy the Nolah Signature 12″. The medium-soft feel of the mattress provides nice cushioning while offering the necessary support to prevent you from sinking too deeply into the mattress.

Stomach Sleepers

I felt the mattress didn’t provide enough support for my lower back when sleeping on my stomach. Stomach sleepers need a firm surface to keep their spine aligned. Unfortunately, the Nolah Signature 12″ may not provide adequate support for sleepers who predominately sleep on their stomach. The medium-soft feel of the mattress could cause the hips to sink too deeply, leading to lower back pain.

Heavier Sleepers

While heavier side sleepers may find comfort in the Signature 12″ Hybrid, it’s important to keep in mind that Nolah has set a maximum recommended weight for each bed size. This ensures that the mattress maintains its supportive and comfortable structure over time. It’s worth noting that exceeding the recommended weight tolerance can also void your warranty.

But don’t worry; Nolah has made sure to accommodate heavier sleepers with their design. The Twin, Twin XL, and Full-size mattresses can support sleepers up to 300 lbs, while the Queen, King, and California King mattresses can support up to 300 lbs per side of the bed for a total of 600 lbs maximum.

Nolah Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid Mattress Performance

Cooling

The mattress also sleeps cooler than other all-foam mattresses I’ve tried. I never woke up feeling sweaty or uncomfortable, even on the hottest nights. This tells me the Nolah Signature 12″ should be an excellent option for hot sleepers.

The AirFoam technology used in this mattress helps dissipate heat more effectively than traditional foam mattresses so that you can stay cool and comfortable all night. What’s more, the breathable cover of the mattress is designed to enhance airflow and wick away moisture, further improving its cooling properties. This means you won’t wake up feeling damp or sticky, even on the hottest summer nights.

Motion Isolation

As for motion isolation, the Nolah Signature 12″ passed with flying colors. My partner and I didn’t disturb each other’s sleep throughout the night, which was a huge relief!

If you share a bed with a partner, motion isolation is an important factor to consider when choosing a mattress. The Nolah Signature 12″ all-foam hybrid mattress does an excellent job of isolating motion so that you won’t be disturbed by your partner’s movements throughout the night. This feature makes it an ideal choice for couples looking for a mattress that can provide a restful night’s sleep.

Edge Support

Edge support refers to the ability of a mattress to maintain its structural integrity and provide adequate support when weight is applied to its perimeter. Good edge support means that the mattress doesn’t collapse or sag excessively when you sit or lie down on the edge of the bed. This is particularly important for people who share a bed, as it ensures that both partners can use the full surface area of the mattress without feeling like they’re going to roll off.

While the Nolah Signature 12″ Hybrid offers decent edge support, it may not be as good as some innerspring or traditional hybrid mattresses, which tend to have firmer edges due to their coil construction. However, for an all-foam mattress, the Nolah Signature 12″ performed pretty well, making it a great choice for couples who need a mattress that can accommodate both partners comfortably.

Ease of Movement

The Nolah Signature 12″ all-foam hybrid mattress perfectly balances contouring and ease of movement. The mattress molds to your body while still allowing you to move around easily. We didn’t feel stuck or restricted during the night. This is especially beneficial for combination sleepers!

Off-Gassing

Off-gassing is common with new mattresses, especially those made with foam materials. It’s the process of releasing unpleasant odors when the mattress is unpackaged. However, the Nolah Signature 12″ all-foam hybrid mattress is made with CertiPUR-US certified foams, meaning they’re free from harmful chemicals and safe for use. Some customers may still experience off-gassing with this mattress, but this should dissipate within 24-48 hours.

Nolah Signature 12 All-Foam Hybrid Mattress Construction

While traditional hybrids are made with foam and coils, the Nolah Signature 12″ hybrid is made entirely from foam to provide maximum comfort and support. Let’s take a closer look at its construction.

Mattress Cover -

The Nolah Signature 12″ mattress has a soft, breathable organic cotton cover that wicks away moisture, providing a cool, dry sleep surface throughout the night.

Comfort Layer -

The mattress’s top layer is made with 2 inches of AirFoam. This proprietary foam is designed for superior pressure relief and comfort. AirFoam is a popular alternative to memory foam, offering better breathability, cooling, contouring, and responsiveness.

Transition Layer -

A 2-inch layer of ultra-breathable active response foam sits beneath the comfort layer. This layer provides added support and promotes airflow for a cooler, more breathable sleep experience.

Support Core -

This unique layer is a combination of 3 layers designed to mimic the feel of coils. Enjoy good ease of movement with minimal motion transfer and targeted spinal support.

Nolah mattresses are designed to provide a comfortable and healthy sleep experience, which is evident in the quality of materials used in their construction. All Nolah mattresses are made with CertiPUR-US certified foams, which means they have passed rigorous testing to ensure they are free from harmful chemicals and meet strict environmental and health standards.
