What Makes Up The Coop Eden Pillow?
The case is made with their signature Lulltra™ fabric, a blend of bamboo derived viscose rayon and polyester. Lulltra™ is designed for maximum comfort and breathability, in fact, the Coop Eden pillow is designed to be used without a pillow case to enjoy the maximum benefits of the trademark design. As such, they have made the case machine washable. While you still can use a pillow case they do caution that doing so can interfere with the cooling properties and breathability, so probably best to skip! If you do decide to use a pillow case we recommend a material that offers breathability and cooling, like bamboo!
The case is designed with a gusset that provides added structure to prevent the shredded memory foam from getting pushed out from under your neck and to the sides of the pillow, this allows for a more even surface. The gusset also helps maintain air flow.
The adjustable fill is made with gel-infused shredded memory foam, that is both CertiPUR-US and Greenguard Gold certified. The memory foam is coated with a thin layer of microfiber which is meant to help prevent clumping.
The pillow is made in the USA and comes compressed with an extra bag of foam for increasing loft size.
Unboxing the Coop Eden Pillow
The pillow comes compressed and rolled up with a bag of additional foam fill. After removing the wrapping and allowing the pillow to expand my attention was immediately drawn to the incredibly soft, luxurious feel of the bamboo derived outer case. It has an incredibly satisfying feel and is cool to the touch, which is great considering Coop doesnt’t recommend using a pillow case.
Almost immediately I was hit by an incredibly strong chemical smell which was even more evident when lying down on the pillow. This can be fairly common with memory foam but I was quite surprised at the intensity of the off-gassing. Coop Home Goods recommends throwing the pillow in the dryer on low heat for an hour or two with a dryer sheet to help reduce the scent.
That being said, the off-gassing smell seems to be the number one complaint amongst customers and is something to be aware of before purchasing. It does go away but I’d even recommend waiting a few nights before properly taking it to bed.
It definitely ticks the right boxes for luxurious feel. The Lulltra™ cover is delightfully soft. The pillow ships quite full and did an excellent job of regulating temperature and staying cool. We did end up removing some of the shredded foam to decrease the loft.
The foam itself is also quite soft though and it took some fiddling about to discover the perfect amount of fill. That being said, Coop does offer free loft customizations. Just call in to speak with a customer service representative and they will help match your needs.
The off-gassing scent lingered for quite a few days before fully dissipating but boy, oh boy was it comfortable! The memory foam contoured and cradled the head in a relaxing but supportive way. While I can’t say it is the MOST luxurious pillow I’ve ever met, I can say it is definitely up there.
Personally I think the pillow is best suited to stomach and back sleepers who enjoy a lower loft. I tried increasing the loft for side sleeping but couldn’t find the right fit. However, plenty of reviews on amazon show side sleepers quite happy with their purchase.
The Coop Eden Pillow comes with a 100 night sleep trial and free shipping and returns in the US. It also comes with a 5-year warranty! Free loft customization is available if you find the original fill is not to your liking.
The pillow is available in Standard, Queen and King sizes with prices ranging from $69.99-$89.99.
Why We Love It
There is lots to love here, the Coop Eden pillow is both hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant. The case easily unzips allowing you to increase or decrease the memory foam fill giving you full customization of the pillow loft. It’s also machine washable, not just the outer case but the entire pillow. That being said, Coop advises not washing the full pillow more than once a year. And we have to admit it is a pretty luxurious pillow!
The strong chemical smell from the off-gassing was the number one complaint of reviewers and our number one complaint as well. Though we personally loved the soft feel of the shredded memory foam, online reviews showed that some customers struggled with how soft the fill was.
