Yogabed Buying Guide

Yogabed is brought to us by Marpac, a bedding company with over 50+ years of experience designing sleep products. While Marpac initially focused on producing white noise machines to aid in better sleep, the brand now includes bed-in-a-box mattresses such as the Unplug and Yogabed along with a plethora of other bedding accessories. In our mattress reviews we breakdown everything from construction to sleep trial, warranties, pricing, and more. We’ll also discuss what type of sleepers benefit most from the Yogabed and who might not.

About YogaBed

Made in the USA the Yogabed is a memory foam mattress that stands at a height of 10” and is comprised of 4 layers of foam known as the YogaComfort System. It features a machine-washable mattress cover and CertiPUR-US certified foams. Beds with this certification are made without formaldehyde, heavy metals, or ozone depleters. They are also rated for low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality.

Yogabed Mattress Construction

The 4 layer YogaComfort System is made up of the following:

  • Cover: The Zip-N-Wash cover is very soft and stretchy and can be removed without lifting the mattress. It can then be machine-washed for easy cleaning. The cover also protects the mattress from dust and allergens. The zipper itself is fairly chunky making it very convenient to zip and unzip without fear of breaking it. It is fairly uncommon to find a mattress that offers a machine-washable cover so this is something that definitely sets the Yogabed apart from its competition.
  • 1” of Instant response YogaFoam: This memory foam layer is fast and responsive, reacting quickly to pressure from your body. It has a feel that is a cross between latex and memory foam providing great pressure relief without that stuck in the mud feeling.
  • 2” YogaGel: This layer provides more of a traditional memory foam feel with cooling gel so you won’t get hot. In fact, YogaGel is designed to provide 7x greater thermal conductivity than traditional memory foam keeping you cool and comfortable all night long. This layer works really well with the top layer and helps to provide more pressure relief.
  • 5” High-density YogaCore Foam: This is essentially the support layer of the mattress. Yogabed claims their foam construction “ensures 95% better airflow and 3 times better heat and moisture-wicking than traditional memory foam.”
  • 2” Base layer: This is an additional base layer to add support and structure to the mattress. It’s also intended to enhance the overall durability of the Yogabed.

Firmness and Feel

The Yogabed is designed to be the best of both worlds: not too firm, not too soft. In other words, it’s designed to be “just right”. We felt the Yogabed provided a medium feel, or a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale. Beds that fall in this category are suitable for a wide range of sleep positions and offer universal comfort. That being said, we do think some sleepers may benefit more than others when sleeping on the Yogabed.

With a fast response memory foam feel, the Yogabed provides a nice balance of pressure relief without feeling like you can’t move from your position. This makes it an ideal choice for combination sleepers who move throughout a range of positions during the night.

The Yogabed mattress is also a solid option for back and side sleepers. As soon as you lay down you will feel the bed conforming around you. There is a bit of sinkage which works nicely for side sleepers, alleviating painful pressure points. It might however be a bit too firm for lightweight (under130 lbs) side sleepers.

This mattress could also work for some stomach sleepers, though we feel it is least suited to those who prefer this sleep position. Additionally, if you prefer a firm mattress this might not be for you. Heavier individuals (230+ lbs) may struggle to get the support they need with this mattress. Instead, for heavyweight individuals, we would recommend taking a look at innerspring and hybrid mattresses which not only tend to provide more support but also sleep cooler.

Motion transfer

Not surprisingly, Yogabed performed exceptionally in this category. All-foam beds and memory foam in particular are known for excellent motion isolation. This is especially important if you share your bed with your partner, your kids, or your pets. No one wants to wake up to their partner tossing and turning in the night or a pet entering and exiting the bed. Good motion isolation helps you sleep through these disturbances and can be crucial for getting a good night’s sleep.

Edge Support

The edge support was a bit disappointing on the Yogabed. All-foam mattresses tend to have poorer edge support especially in relation to the more robust hybrid and innerspring mattresses. When you lay on the edge of the mattress it does compress quite a bit. You will also feel a lot of compression when you are sitting on the bed.

Curious why this is important? Well depending on your sleep set up it may or may not be. However, for couples who share a smaller size bed such as a full or queen size, it can become especially important. You see the better the edge support the bigger the bed will feel as you can comfortably roll out to the far edges of the bed without fear or falling out. When edge support is lacking you are unable to utilize the full surface of the mattress.

Overall, we still think Yogabed could be a great choice for couples. We would, however, suggest sizing up (if possible) when purchasing this mattress, that way you have enough space to move around without feeling like you are going to fall off the bed.

Is The Yogabed a good cooling mattress?

Yogabed has done a few things to this mattress to make it cooler but does it work? Memory foam mattresses respond to heat and pressure, conforming closely to your body. This can cause some serious issues with heat retention.

That being said, Yogabed is designed to promote airflow and breathability and includes a gel-infused memory foam layer that further helps dissipate heat. While we wouldn’t say Yogabed sleeps cool, overall, the Yogabed did a pretty good job of sleeping temperature-neutral.

If you are a hot sleeper we would recommend taking a look at our top picks for the best cooling mattresses.

Yogabed Purchase Details

Free Sleep Trial

Like most bed in a box brands, Yogabed offers a generous sleep trial – 101 nights to be exact.  The only stipulation is that you have to try it for a minimum of 30 days, which is typical for the mattress industry. If you don’t like the mattress after that time you can call them and they will arrange to pick it up free of charge.

Shipping and Returns

Shipping and Returns are free. Yogabed states that you can expect your new bed to ship within 3 days of your purchase date. Ground shipping is standard but expedited shipping is available for a fee. International orders are also possible but you must contact Yogasleep directly to arrange.

Warranty

Yogabed comes with a limited 10-year warranty. This is another industry standard so nothing too unusual here. There is a complete detailed list of their limited warranty here.

Mattress Sizing and Price

The Yogabed is very well-priced with a Queen mattress costing you $949 before any discounts. See our coupon for the latest deals or check out our mattress discounts for eligible savings.

A lot of times when you see a Queen size mattress under $1000, there are only 2 or 3 layers at most. This really set Yogabed apart from the competition.

Yogabed Mattress Review

Yogabed Mattress Review Conclusion

Yogabed could be a great choice for you if you are a side sleeper or combo sleeper. If, however, you prefer a firm bed this might not be enough support for you. Furthermore, if you are a heavier individual you might want to look into a hybrid, like the WinkBed Plus that is specifically designed to heavier indidvuals. One of our favorite features of Yogabed is the Zip-N-Wash removable mattress cover which makes for easy removal and machine-washing. Overall, we also felt the Yogabed provides excellent value for money!
