Mattress Construction
The Nest Bedding Lark has a 7” mattress profile. It is made with Organic Cotton, CertiPUR-US certified foams, and Natural Talalay Latex.
Eco-Flex foam is quilted into the Organic Cotton and Joma Wool mattress cover, creating a plush pillow top feel; which helps relieve pressure and provide additional comfort from the firmer latex layers below.
6” of Natural Talalay Latex makes up the Lark’s core. The latex core provides support, structure, and durability.
Lastly, The Lark Natural Kids Bed is made with a non-chemical hydrogenated silica fire barrier instead of chemical flame retardants.

The Lark’s Firmness & Feel
Overall, the Lark mattress has a firm feel, falling at around an 8 (out of 10) on the firmness scale. A medium-firm to firm mattress is best for children whose growing bodies require proper support.
Natural Talalay Latex gives this kids bed a bouncy, responsive feel that makes it easy to move around and change positions. While the quilted foam pillow top provides the Lark mattress with some gentle contouring for enhanced comfort.
Whether your child prefers to sleep on their side, back, or stomach, the balanced feel of the Lark kids bed, makes it suitable for all sleep positions.

Nest Bedding Lark: Mattress Performance
Cooling
Latex is known for regulating heat and providing pressure relief, which can help keep you comfortable and cool. The Lark mattress has been designed with this feature in mind.
The bed’s core is made from natural latex that is perforated with hundreds of tiny holes to promote airflow and breathability. These holes allow air to circulate freely through the fabric and reduce heat buildup, keeping your little one comfortably cool all night long.

Edge Support
Edge Support indicates how well a mattress stands up to weight around the bed’s perimeter. A kids bed with poor edge support could make it more likely for your little one to take a tumble if they are a particularly active sleeper.
Overall, the Edge Support of the Lark Kids Bed is pretty good. The bed is intended for kids weighing less than 110 lbs, so children weighing more than this may start to notice more compression.
The other thing to be aware of here is the low mattress profile. If you’re using the Lark Mattress with a deeper bed frame, you may feel the frame beneath you while sitting on the edge.

Motion Transfer
Made with Natural Talalay Latex, the Lark Natural Kids Bed has a responsive, slightly bouncy surface feel. This makes it easy to move around but also increases the motion transfer a bit. That being said, the quilted foam mattress cover helps dampen motion while helping to cushion your little one.
Off-Gassing
Natural latex does not off-gas. In other words, it does not emit any harmful chemicals. Natural latex, made from rubber tree sap, emits a slight odor. The odor is generally not offensive and usually dissipates within a few days.
Natural latex and foam make up the Lark Kids Bed. Unlike latex, foam does off-gas. Chemical vapors released from the foam create off-gassing, which can last several days after you receive your new bed.
Because the Lark mattress is made with certiPUR-US certified foams, the VOC output is minimal. Furthermore, Nest Bedding gives their foams time to off-gas in their factory, minimizing odors and other issues experienced with foam mattresses. Overall, we’d say off-gassing was minimal if any.

What Bed Frame Should I Use?
If you’re looking for a bed frame that fits the Lark Kids Mattress, Nest Bedding recommends their HomeBase Foundation. You can also use the Lark Mattress with a Slatted Base or Metal Folding Frame. Bunk beds are also a suitable choice for use with the Lark Mattress.
Just make sure to avoid any foundation with flexible slats, as this can compromise support and void your warranty.

How Does The Lark Kids Bed Compare?
Nest Bedding Lark vs 5 Little Monkeys
- 5 Little Monkeys is designed for children between the ages of 3 and 18, which means you could get more life out of the 5 Little Monkeys Bed.
- It is an all-foam mattress that features CertiPUR-US certified foams, and an OEKO-TEX certified mattress cover, and flame retardant sock.
- It is offered at a lower price point. This is to be expected, though, since the Lark Mattress is a Natural mattress which tends to add to the price tag.
