About the Brand
Helix Sleep has been around since 2014 and has mastered the mattress craft. What makes them stand out from other mattress companies is their wide array of mattress varieties. Offering 12 different kinds of mattresses, Helix has designed a mattress for every body type and sleep style. In this review we test the Helix Midnight Luxe. Keep reading to get the low down on construction, pricing, warranties, and more on the Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress.
Helix Sleep Mattress Quiz
We get it! Finding a mattress can be seriously overwhelming. With so many choices, what do you pick? Helix has a great sleep quiz to help you find out. The quiz is short and easy but will match you with the mattress they think will fit your sleep style, weight, and preference. This is extremely helpful because with so many mattresses to choose from it might be difficult to choose the right one.
Their mattresses are broken down into two categories the Helix and the Helix Luxe. Essentially, each model has an upgraded Luxe version, but in today’s review, we will take a look at their most popular model: the Helix Midnight Luxe. In addition to the 12 models mentioned above, they also have the Helix Plus, which is designed specifically for plus size sleepers, and the Birch by Helix, which is an all-organic option.
Construction of the Helix Midnight Luxe
One of the things we love to see is a mattress 100% handmade in the U.S.A. Especially in this day and age, when stimulating the economy is becoming more and more important.
- Premium Quilted Pillow Top – This plush pillow top layer gives the mattress a hotel-quality feel. The pillow top has a memory foam feel contouring to provide additional comfort. The mattress cover is made with a soft, stretchy, environmentally friendly material made from Tencel fibers. This material is breathable and naturally moisture-wicking.
- The Comfort layer is comprised of pressure-relieving memory foam. This foam is a slow response high-density foam.
- The next layer is a support layer made of Gel Visco. On their website, it advertises Medium IFD which stands for Indentation Force Deflection. In more simple terms it means it has a medium feel.
- The Transition layer is made of High-Grade Polyfoam. This will provide a transition between the foam layers and the coils below as your body weight sinks into the mattress.
- The Zoned Coils have over 1000 individually wrapped coils. It is set up in zones so that there is extra support under your hips and softer support for your shoulders. There is also more support surrounding the mattress for enhanced edge support.
- The Base Layer is their DuraDense foam. It is a firm foam that provides support and improves the durability of the mattress.
- Handles – It may seem like such a small thing but we are thrilled every time we review a mattress with handles. Especially hybrids because they are just so heavy to lift and move. If you have a transient lifestyle and find yourself relocating often you will be so thankful for the side handles to help you move.

Certifications
It is nice knowing that when you bring a mattress into your home and unwrap it you are not spilling toxins from the foam into the air. All Helix mattresses are OEKO-TEX standard 100 and CertiPUR-US certified. What this means is there will not be formaldehyde, mercury, and other ozone depleters in the mattress. On top of that, OEKO-TEX means the fabric used in the mattress is made socially and environmentally safe.
Firmness and Feel
The Helix Midnight Luxe was firmer than we expected. With that being said, we felt it was more like a medium-firm mattress. It has a great supportive feel and the transition layer kept us from feeling the coils beneath the foam. While the mattress is designed with side sleepers in mind, zoned construction lends this mattress a lot of versatility making it suitable for most sleep positions and body types.
We use a scale from 1-10, 10 being the firmest to rate our mattresses. We felt the mattress came in around a 7 on the firmness scale. It is important to note that body weight has a lot to do with how soft or firm a mattress feels. Lightweight sleepers tend to experience a firmer feel than heavier individuals as they have less weight to sink into these layers.
One of the great advantages to getting a Helix mattress is if the mattress is too soft or too firm they will send you out an additional layer. This additional service is great and can be a huge help when trying to find the right mattress. Once you get a mattress in your home it can be a real pain to coordinate returning it. Being able to keep the mattress and make adjustments to find your perfect comfort is much more convenient.
Is the Helix Midnight Luxe best for my sleep position?
We felt the mattress provided ample support for stomach and back sleeping, though heavier stomach sleepers (230+ lbs) might want to consider the Helix Plus. Strict stomach sleepers, however, may wish to consider the Helix Dawn which is designed specifically for back and stomach sleepers. It was a little firm for lightweight side sleepers but had enough plushness for those average weight and heavier individuals who prefer a more medium to medium-firm mattress. Strict side sleepers under 130 lbs may want to take a look at the Helix Sunset.
The Helix Midnight Luxe should also work well for combo sleepers, especially because you don’t sink deeply into this mattress. That made it easier to change positions while sleeping.
Motion Transfer
We felt Helix Midnight Luxe performed very well in this category. Most mattresses with springs don’t do as well but the many layers of foam helped dampen the motion transfer. Helix also has individually wrapped coils, which helps them move independently, softening movement.
Edge Support
Another great feature of Helix mattresses is the enhanced coils on the outer edges of the mattress. This gave the Midnight Luxe enhanced edge support. We felt very supported while sitting on the edge of the bed. We also did not feel like we were going to fall off the bed when laying on the edge. This will be great for couples who have a smaller size bed and want to utilize the entire surface of the mattress.

Does the Helix Midnight Luxe sleep cool?
The Luxe models of Helix all have an upgraded “Ultra-Breathable Tencel Cover.” We slept on it and it did sleep a little cooler than the standard Helix models. I think what also helped was that we didn’t sink that much into the mattress. Overall, the mattress slept fairly cool but if you really sleep hot you might want to check out our best cooling mattresses.
Another great option is to pair the Helix mattress with a Pod Pro Thermo Cover. It is one of our favorite bedroom accessories and has been great for keeping us cool at night and fits almost any mattress.
Purchase Details for the Helix Midnight Luxe
Free Sleep Trial
All Helix mattresses come with a 100-night sleep trial, allowing you to purchase and test the mattress risk-free. The only stipulation is you give it at least 30 days before making your decision. That is typical for the mattress industry. Most mattresses need time to break in and time for your body to get used to a different mattress.
Shipping & Returns
When purchasing a Helix mattress there is free shipping and returns. That being said, Helix will work with you to get your perfect fit. It is great to not have to return the whole mattress for a softer or firmer feel. Not only that, most of the time when mattresses are returned to companies they are dumped and this leads to landfill waste. Being able to customize your mattress is a huge plus for Helix customers.
Warranty
The Helix Luxe mattresses come with a 15-year warranty. This is five more years than their standard warranty.
Mattress Sizing and Price
The Helix Midnight Luxe is part of the Luxe lineup and comes with a higher price tag than the other mattresses Helix sells. The awesome thing about Helix is they offer a discount for those on the front lines. At ASL Reviews we feel strongly about supporting those who risk their lives for us and we pay close attention to companies that show their support too.
Helix offers a 15% discount for military, first responders, and teachers. The Helix Midnight comes in at around $1849 for a Queen before any discounts. They often offer freebies and discounts, see our coupon above or visit our deals and discounts page for the latest sales.
Another great way to purchase is using Klarna to finance your mattress. You can find the application right on their website and you could get as low as 0% APR. They also work with Katapult if you don’t want your credit checked. Visit helixsleep.com for more details.
