A popular Bed-In-A-Box Brand
Leesa is a bed-in-a-box brand that has been shipping direct to consumers since 2014. You might recognize the name Leesa if you have ever shopped at Pottery Barn, West Elm or Macy’s. This mattress giant is not only in some big name stores but it also “A Mattress Made for good,” as their slogan reads. They are a certified Corporation B company and for every 10 mattresses they sell they donate one mattress to a child in need. The Leesa Original is one of 3 mattress designs, which also include the Leesa Hybrid and Leesa Legend. Now that you know Leesa does their part to give back, let’s talk about the mattress in more detail and if it will be right for you, in this unbiased Leesa Original Mattress review.
Social Impact
One of the biggest factors that sets Leesa apart from the other guys is their social impact. As I mentioned before, they donate mattresses to children in need. In fact, they have donated over 36,000 mattresses to shelters and non-profit organizations. To further their social impact they are also certified as a Corporation B company. What does that mean? They strive for equality and safety in the work place, lowering poverty levels in society and building a more “inclusive and sustainable economy”.

Leesa Original Mattress Construction
The Leesa Original is a 10″ all-foam mattress made to order in their factory in Tupelo, MS. All of their foams are CertiPUR-US certified which means there won’t be any harsh chemical off-gassing coming from the mattress. CertiPUR-US certified foams are made without Formaldehyde, heavy metals, flame retardants or ozone depleters.
Let’s take a look at the breakdown of materials:
- Cover: This polyester, viscose, lycra blend is very soft and stretchy almost like a super soft sweatshirt that you love to snuggle up in.
- 2” LSA200 foam: Soft responsive foam that will contour to your body and have a quick response so you don’t have that stuck in the mud feeling.
- 2” Memory foam: has a slower response and works as a transition layer.
- 6” Support foam: This is the base foam it is firm and supportive.

Firmness and Feel of the Leesa mattress
We mentioned earlier that Leesa was made to order, this is important because it means your mattress will not be rolled up for long and will take less time to reshape than a mattress that has been rolled up for months. Mattresses that remain rolled up for longer than 2 months have a greater chance that they will not revert to their original shape. Now for the exciting part, testing it out!
Leesa has a soft plush feel with a medium support. The LSA200 foam (top layer) is a fast response foam that provides immediate pressure relief. The second layer of memory foam works as a transition layer and further provides contouring around your body, supporting your curves. Overall, this has a great medium feel and we rate it around a 7 on the a firmness scale from 1 – 10, 10 being the firmest.

Is the Leesa Mattress Original Good for couples?
Shopping for a mattress to fit the needs of you and your partner can be tough. Perhaps you have a partner who moves around a lot during the night, waking you up. Motion transfer is an important consideration for couples when choosing a new mattress.
The Leesa mattress performed very well in this category and that was no surprise. Typically all foam mattresses do well at isolating motion because there are no coils to make the mattress super bouncy. The top layer and the memory foam in the second layer really did an amazing job keeping us from feeling movement during the night.
Another consideration is Edge Support. Edge support can be important for couples that share a small mattress and want to utilize their full mattress. The edge support on the Leesa original mattress was not the best. It did compress quite a bit when we sat on the edge. That being said it was not as bad when you were laying on it but still was not the best. If this is a major concern you may want to consider checking out a hybrid mattress which commonly blends the comfort of foam with the durability and support of coils.
Lastly, if you and your partner have vastly different firmness preferences an all-foam mattress may be restrictive. In this case we always recommend an adjustable air bed which can accomodate dual adjustability, allowing you both to independently set your firmness.

I Sleep Hot, Will I Like The Leesa Mattress?
The Leesa Original mattress has a cooling foam on the top layer and we felt it slept temperature neutral. It did a good job of balancing our temperature and we didn’t feel like we were hot waking up in the morning.
If you are looking for a mattress that sleeps cool, rather than temperature neutral, we recommend checking out cooling mattresses like Purple, Winkbeds and Amerisleep. Or, take a look at our top picks for the best cooling mattresses.
