The Nolah Evolution 15 is a luxury hybrid mattress from technology-driven mattress brand Nolah. Nolah offers a selection of other mattresses, including the popular all-foam models, the Nolah Original 10″, the Nolah Signature 12″, and the Signature 12″ All-Foam Hybrid, but the Evolution is the brand’s most popular mattress, and it’s easy to see why. The mattress is packed with features that support all sleeping positions, including side, back, and stomach sleepers. But is it right for you?

Our Nolah Evolution 15 review will discuss construction, firmness and feel, mattress performance, purchase details, and more.

Firmness & Feel of the Nolah Evolution 15

The Nolah Evolution 15 is available in three firmness choices: plush, luxury firm, and firm. We reviewed the plush option and found it slightly firmer than advertised.

The mattress has a balanced feel due to its TriZone support coils that contour to your body’s shape while providing support throughout the night. We rated it a 4.5 out of 10 for firmness, meaning it falls between medium and medium-soft.

Let’s look at how it breaks down based on body type and sleep position. For reference, lightweight refers to sleepers weighing less than 130 lbs, average weight refers to sleepers weighing between 130 and 230 lbs, and heavy sleepers refers to individuals weighing more than 230 lbs.

Firmness Scale 1-10 highlights a 4.5 or medium soft to medium firmness.

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers have different needs than back or stomach sleepers. They tend to be more sensitive to pressure points on their shoulders and hips, which can cause pain when lying on their side for extended periods.

The plush option is ideal for average and lightweight side sleepers. Heavier side sleepers will find the greatest comfort in the luxury firm model.

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers need a mattress that supports their spine and keeps it aligned while they sleep. Nolah mattresses are designed with TriZone support coils in multiple firmness options to support back sleepers.

The plush option is ideal for lightweight back sleepers, while average-weight and heavier individuals may find that the luxury firm or firm option offers the best support.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers require a firmer mattress with minimal contouring and cushioning; this prevents the hips from sinking in too far, causing strain on your back.

The plush version of the Evolution may work for some lightweight stomach sleepers, while others may prefer the support of the luxury firm. We’d recommend the firm option for average and heavy stomach sleepers.

Nolah Evolution 15 Mattress Performance

Cooling

The Nolah Evolution 15 is designed with cooling in mind. The mattress is made with an ArticTex cover and graphite-infused AirFoamICE cooling foam. The mattress also includes a breathable gusset for heat dissipation. The thick foam comfort layers allow for nice sinkage and contouring, but they also encourage heat retention.

While we didn’t sleep hot, we didn’t sleep particularly cool either; it was temperature neutral. The luxury firm or firm options will offer less sinkage and may be more suitable for hot sleepers.

Motion Isolation

Motion Isolation refers to the ability of a mattress to isolate motion so that only you feel your movements. This is an important feature for couples who sleep in the same bed, as it can help prevent one partner from being disturbed by the other’s tossing and turning.

The Nolah Evolution 15 mattress performs very well in this category, effectively isolating motion thanks to its thick comfort foam construction. It’s a great option for couples and co-sleepers!

Edge Support

Edge support refers to how well a mattress holds up at its edges—where your body weight rests when sitting or lying near the edge of the mattress. This is especially problematic for couples sharing a smaller bed as poor edge support reduces the usable surface space of the mattress, making it feel smaller. Thankfully, the Evolution mattress demonstrates good edge support!

Former ASL Reviews team member, Jen, demonstrates edge support on the Nolah Evolution 15 Hybrid.

Ease of Movement

Ease of movement refers to how easy it is to move around on the mattress; this is especially important for combination sleepers who change position frequently.

We were concerned that the Euro-topper and thick foam comfort layers might make movement slightly sluggish. But Nolah’s proprietary AirFoam is responsive, returning to shape quickly. Combination sleepers should experience relatively good ease of movement.

Off-Gassing

Off-gassing is a temporary chemical odor that occurs when new mattresses are unpackaged. Off-gassing may cause an unpleasant smell, which can be irritating to sensitive or asthmatic people.

You may notice a slight odor when unboxing the Nolah Evolution mattress. It should dissipate within the first 24-48 hours.

Nolah Evolution 15 Mattress Construction

This 15″ mattress includes 7 layers of foam and coils engineered to give you the best night’s sleep. Foams are certiPUR-US certified, meaning they are made without harmful chemicals like heavy metals and ozone depleters.

Mattress Cover -

The Evolution is made with a 2″ premium Euro topper with an Organic Cotton and ArticTex cover designed to keep sleepers cool and dry. A breathable gusset wraps around the Euro-top and foam comfort layers allowing heat to escape.

Comfort Layer -

A 2″ layer of graphite-infused foam, known as AirFoamICE, further promotes cooling while providing exceptional pressure relief and comfort.

Below sits 2″ of high-resilience foam, providing support and promoting a healthy spine.

Transition Layer -

1″ of high-density foam sits between the foam comfort layers and the support coils. This layer is responsive and supportive, preventing sleepers from sinking into the coil support core below.

Support Core -

8″ of HDMax TriZone Support Coils make up the support core. This layer includes enhanced support through the lumbar and a reinforced perimeter for better edge support.

The TriZone support coils sit atop a recycled plant fiber foundation. This thin foundation layer increases the stability and durability of the mattress.

Nolah Purchase Details

Sleep Trial

Nolah mattresses come with a 120-night sleep trial. If for any reason, you’re unhappy with your purchase, you can initiate a return or exchange after night 30 but before the 120th night.

However, though Nolah will accept returns and exchanges during this time, returns will incur a fee of $99.

Warranty

Though your new mattress has been built to last, wear and tear are inevitable. Nolah mattresses come with a limited lifetime warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship, including indentations of greater than one inch.

I always recommend reading through the fine print before making any large purchase. Nolah, like most brands, does have some stipulations. For example, Nolah mattresses come with a weight restriction, as seen below. Exceeding these limits can void your warranty.

Nolah Evolution Prices, Bed Sizes & Weights

The Nolah Evolution 15 is a luxury hybrid mattress, and that’s reflected in the price tag. The cost of this mattress is slightly above average compared to other hybrid models. That being said, the Evolution 15 features advanced technology, which explains the increased cost. Budget shoppers should have a look at our list of the best affordable mattresses.

Choosing A Compatible Bed Frame

To ensure you get the most out of your mattress, you’ll want to pair it with a suitable bed frame or base. Not only is this important for healthy sleep, but it is required for your warranty.

Nolah states the Evolution mattress can be used on any flat surface, including box springs, slatted bases, adjustable bases, and platform bed frames. Using a slatted base, ensure that slats are no more than 5″ apart. Visit Nolah for more information about their warranty requirements.
