Gravity Lux YouTube Review
GravityLux Mattress Construction
The GravityLux is a memory foam mattress available in 3 firmness options: soft, medium, and firm. Every mattress is hand-made to order here in the USA with American-sourced materials.
2” of cooling gel-infused foam are tufted and encased inside a eucalyptus-derived Tencel cover designed for cooler, dryer sleep.
The comfort layer is made with a patented AirCell memory foam designed to minimize motion transfer and eliminate heat retention. This layer also includes shock-absorbing air capsules that provide support while melting away pressure points.
Next up, a layer of Progression Foam provides zoned support and pressure relief. This layer is engineered to push back in areas such as your lumbar which require more support. While at the same time relieving pressure through your shoulders and hips.
The base layer of the GravityLux is made from 1.8lb density ATLAS Core foam. This layer is designed for enhanced support and sag resistance.
Firmness & Feel of the GravityLux
We tested the medium, the most popular of the 3 firmnesses. On a scale of 1-10, we’d rate the GravityLux medium around a 6. Not too firm and not too soft, the medium option offers a balanced feel. As such, it could be a good fit for all body types and sleep positions.
The soft foam layers on top of the mattress provided immediate pressure relief. At the same time, the firm support layers beneath quickly came up to meet us, keeping us in healthy alignment. The zoned progression worked well to reduce pressure buildup through our hips and shoulders while keeping our midsection from sagging.
The GravityLux (formerly known as the MemoryLux), has a dense foam feel– solid, yet responsive and pressure relieving. If you prefer the deep contouring and slow response of classic memory foam you may wish to check out our best memory foam mattresses.
Body Type & Sleep Position
Your sleep position and your body type have a lot to do with your sleep experience. Heavier individuals experience different challenges than lightweight sleepers. Just like side sleepers and stomach sleepers have different needs. So no review would be complete without discussing these nuances.
Side sleepers are prone to pressure build-up through the hips and shoulders. The zoned progression foam of the GravityLux provides nice pressure relief through these problem areas, while also providing ample support for your spine.
Lightweight sleepers (under 130lbs.) and strict side sleepers may find the GravityLux medium a bit too firm. We’d recommend taking a look at the GravityLux soft version. While average weight side sleepers or side/combo sleepers may prefer the slightly firmer support of the medium.
Heavier side sleepers may find the medium a touch too firm for adequate pressure relief. Sleepers in this weight range may benefit from the soft version as well.
The most popular firmness, the GravityLux medium, is ideal for average weight side and back sleepers. Good motion isolation and a balanced feel make this an exceptionally good choice for combo sleepers as well. The GravityLux medium is also the best bet for couples as this option is the most accommodating to a wider variety of sleep preferences.
Depending on your weight, stomach sleepers could find either the medium or the firm option to be suitable. Lightweight stomach sleepers may benefit most from the GravityLux medium. While average weight stomach sleepers can choose between medium or firm, depending on their firmness preferences.
Heavy-weight stomach sleepers require additional support through the mid-section to keep the hips from sinking in. Stomach sleepers in this weight range would best be served by the firm option or the WinkBeds Plus. This is their flagship hybrid model, designed specifically for individuals weighing more than 230 pounds.
Is The GravityLux Good For Couples?
Shopping for a new mattress is hard enough when sleeping solo. Throw in the needs and preferences of a partner and buying a new mattress can be downright overwhelming.
If you and your partner have different firmness preferences, you may wish to check out our best adjustable air beds. These mattresses offer dual-adjustability, allowing you and your partner to customize your sleep experience.
If you and your partner are lucky enough to agree on a mattress firmness, you’re already ahead of the game. However, you may want to consider other key elements of mattress performance, such as motion transfer and edge support.
The GravityLux offers exceptional motion isolation. Shock-absorbing air capsules move independently to each other, absorbing motion. This is particularly important if you or your partner are a restless sleeper.
Mattresses with poor motion transfer can cause undue sleep disturbances. The quick response of the foam layers also means you shouldn’t feel any dips or sag due to your partner’s body weight. If you are a light sleeper, prone to waking easily, the GravityLux could be a great choice for you.
Edge Support on the GravityLux was surprisingly decent. Most all-foam mattresses tend to suffer in this category. This is especially true the softer the mattress.
If you are a couple sharing a full or queen-size bed this could negatively impact your sleep experience. If possible a king-size mattress should eliminate any issues, providing ample space for you and your partner.
Mattresses that have poor edge support don’t allow you to utilize the full surface of the mattress. When lying along the edge of the bed we didn’t feel like we would roll out of the bed.
Does the GravityLux Sleep Cool?
Traditional memory foam beds are temperature sensitive, using your body’s natural heat to shape and mold to your form. This can cause an excess of heat build-up, making for an uncomfortably hot night. Overall, we’d say the GravityLux slept temperature neutral.
The GravityLux boasts several features to help combat heat retention. Including a cooling Tencel mattress cover and gel-infused foam layers on top. Tencel is made from sustainably sourced wood by environmentally responsible processes. The material is known to be exquisitely soft in addition to providing enhanced breathability.
Perhaps most importantly, the GravityLux is made with patented AirCell foam. This unique memory foam layer is NOT temperature sensitive, allowing heat to dissipate faster. Additionally, we found we did not experience the same deep sinkage associated with classic memory foam. This also contributed to a cooler night’s sleep.
