About Puffy
Ever wondered what it was like to sleep on a cloud? That’s what Puffy promises with its lineup of premium memory foam mattresses. Puffy is a popular bed in a box brand known for its cloud-like comfort. The brand consists of 3 mattress models: the Puffy, the Puffy Lux, and the Puffy Royal. Both the Lux and the Royal are available in all-foam, or foam + coils, while the original Puffy is only available in all-foam.
We tested their flagship model, the Puffy. Is it as comfortable as they claim? Find out in our Puffy mattress review. We’ll discuss mattress construction, firmness and feel, and sleep preferences. We’ll also cover purchase details such as sleep trial, warranties, pricing, and more.

Puffy Mattress Construction
Made in the USA, Puffy is an all-foam mattress designed for most sleep positions and sleep preferences. It boasts a 10” mattress profile and is constructed with the following 5 layer sleep system:
- Patented Stain-Resistant Cloud Cover – This mattress cover is super stretchy with plenty of give, adapting to your curves as you sink into the comfort layer. Stain-resistant as well as hypoallergenic, the cover is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. Textiles with this certification are free from harmful chemicals such as PFOS, PBDEs, PVC, formaldehyde, and heavy metals. The mattress cover can be unzipped, removed, and thrown in the wash for easy cleaning.
- Cooling Cloud Foam – Made with 2” of gel-infused foam, this layer is engineered for optimal breathability and cooling.
- Climate Comfort Foam – This layer is made with 2” of pressure-relieving cooling foam designed to cradle your body while remaining supportive enough for all sleep positions.
- Firm Core Support Foam – This 6” base layer consists of high-density foam meant to stabilize and support the mattress. In addition to providing excellent support, this layer is responsible for the overall durability of the Puffy mattress.
- Grip Base Cover – Designed to help your mattress stay in place if you are an active sleeper, prone to lots of movement.

CertiPUR-US Certified Foams
Something we at ASL Reviews are increasingly concerned with is the health and safety of the products we bring into our home. While we are pleased most mattresses we review include CertiPUR-US certified foams, not all do.
All of the Puffy mattresses feature certiPUR-US certified foams, ensuring your new mattress isn’t made with harmful chemicals such as ozone depleters, heavy metals, or TDCPP or TCEP (”Tris”) flame retardants. Foams with this certification also have low VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions for indoor air quality.
Firmness & Feel Of The Puffy Mattress
Puffy is a comfortable mattress that strikes a nice balance between pressure relief and support. The bed has a medium to medium-firm feel, or around a 6-6.5 on the firmness scale.
Overall, Puffy’s balanced feel should make it suitable to a wide variety of sleep positions, and a particularly good choice for combination sleepers who require ease of movement. Let’s take a look!

Side Sleepers
Puffy is a solid choice for side sleepers. Designed for cloud-like comfort, the comfort layers provide some nice contouring, while the foams spring back fairly quickly, preventing sagging and promoting healthy spinal alignment.
If you struggle with shoulder pain or hip pain, consider a softer mattress that provides greater pressure point relief, such as the Puffy Lux (medium-plush) or Puffy Royal (plush).
Back Sleepers
Personally, I felt the most comfort when sleeping on my back. The medium-firm feel of the Puffy mattress makes it an ideal choice for back sleepers and back pain sufferers! Puffy provides adequate lumbar support without placing strain on the lower back. The foam adapted nicely through my hips, providing nice pressure relief.

Stomach Sleepers
Lightweight stomach sleepers may get enough support from Puffy, but average weight and heavier individuals likely won’t. We did experience some sinkage through the hips, causing undue strain at the base of the spine. Strict stomach sleepers are best served by a firm mattress, such as the Helix Dawn, designed specifically for stomach sleepers.
Heavy Individuals (230+ lbs)
Puffy does state that all of their mattresses can hold up to 350lbs of weight per side. That being said, the 10” all-foam construction may not hold up as well to sleepers in this weight range. Individuals weighing more than 230 lbs may be better suited to a hybrid mattress or a mattress specifically designed for heavier individuals, such as the WinkBeds Plus or Helix Plus.
Is Puffy A Good Mattress For Couples?
Couples have some additional hurdles to climb when shopping for a new mattress. Factors like motion isolation and edge support can greatly affect the sleeping experience for couples and no one wants to end up with a sleep divorce. Let’s take a look!
Motion Transfer
Choosing a mattress with minimal motion transfer can be the difference between a good night’s sleep and a restless one. This is especially true if you are a light sleeper and your partner is prone to lots of movement throughout the night, or vice versa.
Not surprisingly, Puffy did a great job isolating motion. The dense foam layers dampened movement, allowing us to sleep undisturbed.
Edge Support
Mattresses with poor edge support don’t allow you to utilize the full surface of the bed. Which means, couples sharing a Full or Queen sized bed are most likely to feel the affects of poor edge support. All-foam mattresses tend to suffer in this category, while hybrids and innerspring mattresses tend to perform a bit better.
Puffy definitely demonstrates quite a bit of compression when sitting on the edge of the bed. I expected to see that translate to poor edge support when lying on/or near the edge of the mattress. That being said, I was pleased to discover that I did not feel like I was going to fall out of the bed.
Overall, Puffy provides better edge support than most all-foam mattresses. We think Puffy is likely to be a good fit for couples.

Is Puffy Good For Hot Sleepers?
Yes. Puffy features open cell foams made with cooling gel to improve breathability and help those who sleep hot. The medium-firm feel of the Puffy mattress meant we didn’t sink deeply into the foam layers, trapping heat. While Puffy didn’t actively cool us down, it did do a good job of providing a dry, temperature-neutral sleep environment.
Other factors can affect how hot or cool you sleep, such as room temperature, pajamas, bed sheets and more. If you’re a hot sleeper you may want to take a look at our picks for best cooling mattress or our favorite cooling accessory, the Pod Pro Thermo Cover.
Puffy Mattress Purchase Details
Free Sleep Trial
All Puffy mattresses come with a 101-night trial period. You do have to keep the mattress for a minimum of 14 days before initiating a return. This is fairly common, most bed in a box companies do require you keep the mattress for a minimum of 14-30 days. This gives you ample chance to break-in your new mattress.
Shipping and Return Policy
Shipping and returns within the contiguous US are FREE. Puffy ships direct to your doorstep via FedEx. Expect your new mattress to arrive within 2-5 business days.
Should you decide that your new Puffy mattress is not right for you, simply initiate a return before your sleep trial ends. Puffy will provide a full refund and then arrange to have the mattress picked up and donated to charity.
Shipping charges will apply for products sent to Alaska or Hawaii. Shipping fees to Alaska and Hawaii are not eligible for a refund.
Lifetime Warranty
Puffy is part of a select few bed in a box brands that offers a lifetime warranty. This means your new Puffy mattress is guaranteed to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for as long as you own the mattress. Like most mattress warranties, this is only good for the original purchaser.
While all of the Puffy mattresses are designed to adapt and conform to your body during sleep, Puffy considers impressions greater than 1.5” to be excessive. As such, sagging or permanent indentations greater than 1.5” are covered in your mattress warranty.
That being said, most bed in a box mattresses we’ve reviewed require you pair your new mattress with a suitable frame. Failure to pair your Puffy with an appropriately sized frame can void your warranty. Learn more about the warranty at puffy.com.
Choosing A Compatible Bed Frame Or Foundation
Choosing a compatible mattress foundation is important for more than just your warranty. A suitable foundation also means better support for you, as well as better mattress hygiene.
Luckily, the Puffy mattresses work with most surfaces. This includes box springs, slatted frames (slats no more than 4” apart), platform and adjustable bases, even the floor! Puffy does sell a collection of foundations including our go to, the Puffy adjustable base. Or, check out these best-selling adjustable bases on Amazon.

Puffy Mattress Review Conclusion
Puffy is a budget-friendly memory foam mattress that balances pressure relief and support. This memory foam mattress provides a medium to medium-firm feel that we think is best suited to back and combination sleepers. Though side sleepers who prefer a more balanced feel are also likely to enjoy the Original Puffy.
Excellent motion isolation and decent edge support make it a good option for couples. While open cell, gel-infused foams trap less heat than traditional memory foam mattresses, providing a temperature-neutral sleep surface. Puffy is one of the few mattresses that features a machine washable mattress cover making it easy to maintain a clean sleep environment.
