About the Brand
Nest Bedding has been around longer than most of the bed-in-a-box brands. They are based in California and all of their mattresses are made from their factory right here in the U.S.A. The Nest Bedding brand is focused on making natural and organic bedding and mattresses. Their beds come with CertiPUR-US certifications and they use natural fire retardants, which could be a great choice for the health-conscious shopper.
They have a few showrooms throughout California as well as New York City and Seattle. Don’t worry if you’re not near a showroom because they have a great sleep trial. We will talk more about that later. So without further ado, let’s dive into our Nest Bedding Sparrow Hybrid mattress review.
***Note: The Nest Bedding Sparrow was previously known as the Nest Bedding Alexander Signature Hybrid Mattress.

Nest Sparrow Mattress Construction
In our review we’ll discuss details like construction, mattress firmness and feel, temperature regulation, and more. We will also give insight into what sleep positions and sleep preferences the Nest Bedding Sparrow Hybrid is best for.
Before we get into construction, I want to point out one feature that Nest Bedding has in all of their beds. If you didn’t know, all mattresses are required to have some kind of fire retardant. Many companies use chemicals for flame retardants. Nest Bedding uses something called Hydrated Silica that works as a chemical-free fire retardant. They combine this with wool to provide a fire barrier that is natural and made without chemicals. They also have the popular CertiPUR-US certification on their mattresses. Foam mattresses with this certification are free from ozone depleters, harmful chemicals, and formaldehyde which may be found in other mattresses.
- Super Soft Thermic Phase Change with 0.5″ of memory foam quilted in: This top cover is immediately cool to the touch. It has a silky smooth feel and is quilted with a foam that is infused with copper to provide cooling benefits.
- 3” (2.8lb) Energex Temperature Responsive Foam : This foam layer regulates temperature and enhances the breathability of the mattress. Highly adaptive, this layer provides is engineered for the pressure relief of memory foam, while offering the responsiveness of latex.
- 1” Smart Flow Support Foam: This is simply a transition foam before you get to the coils
- 6” Quantum Edge Pocketed Zoned coils: The coils are zoned with softer coils under your shoulders and more support under your hips.
- 1” Base Support Foam: Brings the whole mattress together and supports the coils on top
- Reinforced Polyester Encasement: The mattress is encased inside a very strong material and has some very handy handles for moving.
Sparrow Hybrid Mattress Firmness & Feel
The Nest Sparrow Hybrid comes in 3 different feels: Plush, Medium, and Lux Firm. In this review we tested the plush model.
You immediately sink into this mattress and it has incredible pressure relief. It has a traditional pillow top feel with a little memory foam sneaking in. It still has a fast response feel but gives great pressure relief. That being said you do sink into this mattress and it has a lovely, cozy feeling to it. The top layer allows you to sink in while the next layer provides great support.
As far as a rating from 1-10, 10 being the firmness, we would rate it around a 5.5. This could be a great mattress for most sleepers, but is especially suitable for side sleepers. If you are a stomach or back sleeper, you might want to go with the medium or Lux Firm model.
Cooling Benefits Of The Nest Sparrow Hybrid
The Nest Sparrow did ok for cooling. The plush model is very soft and you sink into the mattress. Most of the time when you sleep “in” a mattress vs “on” a mattress (such as with a firmer model), you will get warmer at night. Even with cooling foam and material your body will not stop producing heat that will circulate in the bed. That being said, the Sparrow hybrid didn’t sleep especially cool for us, it more felt like it was temperature neutral. If you are concerned about sleeping cool check out our top cooling mattresses.
Is The Sparrow Hybrid Good For Couples?
Yes! The Nest Sparrow is an excellent choice for couples, especially couples with different mattress firmness preferences. For couples whose sleep needs vary widely we would generally recommend an adjustable air bed. These mattresses allows sleepers to independently customize the firmness of their side of the bed.
However, the Nest Sparrow is a unique hybrid mattress that has an internal split option. You prefer a soft mattress while your partner prefers firm? With Nest you can choose a different firmness option for either side of the bed. This option is only available in a king or california king size. So no more sleep breakups, you can both get what you want!
Hybrid mattresses tend to provide good edge support and this is true of the Nest Sparrow Hybrid. Nest Bedding uses strong edge support coils that are different than the rest of the mattress. The extra support made the edge support great in this model. It was also great when lying next to the edge of the mattress. This is especially important for couples sharing a smaller mattress or individuals who have trouble getting into and out of bed.
Nest Bedding Sparrow Purchase Details
Free Sleep Trial
Nest Bedding offers a 365-night sleep trial which is one of the longest in the bed-in-a-box industry. The only stipulation is you must have it for at least 30 nights. This is fairly common and allows you the time to adjust to your new mattress.
One of the best features of Nest Bedding is their Lifetime Renewal Exchange program. This program gives customers the option of exchanging the comfort layer to make the bed firmer or softer. This program also allows you to exchange the comfort layer years down the line if your comfort insert has begun to show signs of wear and tear.
This makes finding the right mattress a little bit easier, saving you the hassle of returns and/or exchanges. It also means a longer lifespan for your mattress and fewer mattresses in landfills!
Shipping & Returns
Nest Bedding offers FREE shipping and returns which makes it easier on the wallet. If you are located in Hawaii, Alaska, or Canada there will be an additional fee. Nest Bedding makes each mattress when they are ordered so it’s great knowing they haven’t been rolled up for months waiting to be purchased. If you do need to return the whole mattress Nest will try to work with you to get the mattress donated locally, thus saving our landfills.
There are only a small handful of mattress companies that offer a lifetime warranty and Nest Bedding is one of them.

Nest Bedding Sparrow Hybrid Mattress Review Conclusion
Nest Bedding Sparrow Hybrid Mattress Review Conclusion
Nest Bedding really knows what they are doing when it comes to making mattresses. The Nest Sparrow Hybrid mattress looks well-made and has some great features that come along with purchasing from Nest Bedding. Some of those features are the Lifetime Renewal Exchange Program, natural flame retardants, Lifetime Warranty, and made in the U.S.A.
Overall, we think this could be a great mattress for any type of sleeper. The Nest Sparrow Hybrid in plush will be especially good for lightweight side sleepers. Back and stomach sleepers, as well as heavier individuals (230+ lbs.) may wish to consider either the medium or lux firm models. If you are at all concerned about choosing the right mattress, Nest Bedding has a great chat, or you can hit us up on any of our social media channels. We are happy to give personal recommendations.

I thought your review was very thorough and I want to purchase one. I am hoping you could advise me on which firmness to purchase. I am petite and weigh 128 lbs. I prefer side sleeping, but sometimes end up on my back. Would you recommend the plush or medium? I prefer a softer mattress but not to soft that my back will hurt. Help!!
Thanks for reaching out! As a lightweight side sleeper, I think the plush is likely to be a better fit. That being said, Nest does come with a risk-free trial, so if you do find it to be too soft, you can swap it out during the 100-night sleep trial. Hope this helps!
