Nectar Lush Mattress Construction
Standing at 12” in height the Nectar Lush features 3 layers of premium foam and a soft, cool to the touch mattress cover. The mattress cover is removable and designed to help pull heat away from the body, providing a cool surface feel.
The top comfort layer is 3” of gel-coated memory foam that provides some excellent pressure relief. AquaCool™, found in the midsection of the bed, further assists in temperature regulation.
The second layer is 2” of Energex™ memory foam which acts as a transition layer between the comfort layer and the supportive base layer underneath. Energex™ is a high density memory foam which recovers faster, providing more bounce and mobility than traditional memory foam.
Lastly, the base layer is 7 inches of high density foam which gives the Nectar Lush added support and durability.
Firmness And Feel Of The Nectar Lush Mattress
The Nectar Lush provides a nice balance between comfort and support. While the memory foam works quickly to respond to pressure, it does so without bogging you down in the mattress. Instead we felt as if we remained floating comfortably on top. Overall the mattress has a medium to medium-firm feel which we rated around a 6.5/10 with 10 being the firmest. Mattresses that fall into this firmness range tend to support a wide variety of sleeping positions and we feel this is certainly true for the Nectar Lush.
Memory foam mattresses are a leading choice for those looking to relieve pain through their hips and shoulders; it can also be a good fit for chronic pain sufferers. Side sleepers can oftentimes find it difficult to get the pressure relief they need, but as we expected, the Lush immediately gave way to these sensitive areas, melting away pressure points.
The balanced feel and gentle cradle of the Lush should be quite pleasing to back sleepers as well as combination sleepers who need increased mobility. We were able to transition from one sleep position to another without feeling stuck.
Stomach sleepers may find the Nectar Lush a bit hit or miss as we did feel a bit of sinkage through the hips when lying face down. Petite stomach sleepers may find the support adequate, but in general, this wouldn’t be our top pick for strict stomach sleeping.
Does The Nectar Lush Sleep Hot?
One thing we are always on the look out for with any new memory foam mattress is heat retention. Perhaps one of memory foams biggest downfalls is its penchant for retaining heat but this was not a problem with the Nectar Lush.
The Nectar Lush provided a temperature neutral sleeping experience that allowed us to stay in a deep sleep without waking up due to sweating or overheating.
Is The Nectar Lush Good For Couples?
As if mattress shopping didn’t already come with a lot to think about, couples may find the process even more overwhelming. So, what exactly should you be looking for if you share your bed with a partner?
Adjustability- If you and your partner prefer different firmness settings, purchasing a new bed that’s a good match for you both can be difficult. While air adjustable beds will always remain our top choice for couples with vastly different firmness preferences, they aren’t always practical from a financial standpoint. While the Nectar Lush doesn’t offer dual adjustability, it does offer a pretty balanced medium firmness that suits a wide range of sleeping styles. Is your partner a side sleeper while you prefer sleeping on your back? Then the Nectar Lush could be a great option for you!
Motion Transfer- Having a mattress that isolates motion is a necessity for couples, especially if one or both of you are restless sleepers. Memory foam generally performs exceptionally well when it comes to minimizing motion and the Lush is no exception.
Edge Support- While poor edge support isn’t likely a deal breaker it can be particularly important for couples sharing a full or queen sized bed. Having good edge support allows partners to utilize the full surface of the mattress without fear of rolling or falling out of bed. This tends to be another area of weakness for memory foam mattresses which are designed to compress and contour beneath pressure. The Nectar Lush has ok edge support. Not the best we’ve seen but certainly not the worst.
How Does The Original Nectar Compare To The Nectar Lush?
Both the Original Nectar and the Nectar Lush are all-foam beds in a box designed for superior comfort. The Lush is Nectar’s exploration into premium memory foam design while the Original Nectar was designed for maximum comfort at an affordable, budget-friendly price. So how do these two beds compare and which one is right for you?
I was expecting the Lush to be softer than the Original and was surprised to find that wasn’t the case. We reviewed the Nectar mattress last year and gave it a 5.5 out of 10 for firmness, falling more on the medium to medium-soft range versus the medium to medium-firm feel of the Nectar Lush. That’s not a knock against either model, but a starting point for comparison.
Both mattresses perform exceptionally well for side sleeping but while the Original Nectar provides deep contouring, allowing you to sink into the comfort layers, the Nectar Lush leaves you feeling more like you are floating or resting just on top. The Nectar Lush has better mobility making it a more suitable option for combination sleepers who move around a lot through the night.
Because you don’t experience the same deep sinkage found in the Original Nectar, we found that the Nectar Lush slept significantly cooler than the flagship model and is likely a better fit for those who sleep hot.
The Original Nectar remains your best bet if you are on a strict budget. It also happens to be one of our all time favorite cheap mattresses under $1,000.
What Type Of Mattress Foundation Does the Nectar Lush Need?
Nectar is compatible with most frames and foundations, including adjustable bases. If you are looking to purchase a new frame or base for your bed you’ll definitely want to check out Nectar’s bundles. More often than not Nectar is running a special or promotion when you bundle your mattress purchase with accessories like the Nectar adjustable base, Nectar Pillows, or their Sateen Sheets collection.
