Helix Sleep Quiz
The first thing you might notice when visiting helixsleep.com is their sleep quiz. This is a handy tool that can help you discover which mattress is best suited to your sleep style and preference. This is especially helpful because they have 6 different mattresses in their lineup. Each model is available with Luxe upgrade features for an additional cost. If you get a minute try the sleep quiz, it is short and sweet.
We know choosing a bed can be hard but Helix truly has a mattress for everyone. In addition to the 6 different firmness levels, they also have the Helix Plus and Birch by Helix. The Helix Plus is designed specifically for heavier weight sleepers while the Birch by Helix is their only organic offering.
Helix Sleep mattresses are 100% handmade in the U.S.A. When you purchase from Helix Sleep you are helping stimulate the US economy through materials produced entirely in the United States and assembled in domestic factories.
Mattress Cover: The mattress cover is soft to the touch and has a stretchy feel. It is also aerated to ensure breathability when sleeping.
Comfort Layer: This is a responsive latex foam. Instead of sinking in as you might with memory foam, this latex foam has a bouncy, firm feel.
Transition Layer: This High-Grade Polyfoam is slightly firmer and provides extra support and a great transition to the coils below.
Body Shape Layer: Individually wrapped coils are used to provide cradling support, they also help to dampen motion transfer. Additionally, Helix also uses reinforced coils on the outside of the mattress for better edge support and increased durability.
Base Layer: DuraDense foam is a dense foam that provides support to the whole mattress.
All of the Helix mattresses are made with OEKO-TEX standard 100 and CertiPUR-US certified foam. This means it will be free from formaldehyde, mercury, and other ozone depleters. Plus, when you open the mattress it won’t spill nasty toxins in the air that might be bad for you and your family.
Firmness and Feel
We tested the Helix Dawn. It has a firm, yet plush feel. The coils work very well with the foam on top. In fact, they work so well together that we didn’t feel the coils underneath at all. This is unusual, as with most hybrid mattresses you are aware of the springs beneath you.
The top comfort layers provide enough plushness for you to feel pressure relief yet the mattress is firm enough for stomach and back sleepers. The Helix Dawn could be a good match for all sleep positions but is especially suited to stomach, back, and combo sleepers. If you are a lightweight side sleeper or just someone who prefers a soft mattress this one might not be for you. If you prefer soft, you might want to try the Helix Sunset or Moonlight.
*On the Helix Sleep website, they give the Helix Dawn an 8-9 on the firmness scale. We think it is more of a 7-7.5 and has a slightly plush feel on top to provide pressure relief. The great thing about Helix is if you ended up with a mattress that doesn’t feel right they will send you out an additional layer to either make it firmer or softer free of charge.
We felt the Helix Dawn did pretty well for motion transfer. We really didn’t notice much movement and that was surprising because most mattresses with coils don’t do so well in this category. It could be because they individually wrap the coils and also provide extra support on the outer edge of the mattress. The coils work well with the foam on top to dampen the movement while in bed.
We were very impressed with the edge support on the Helix Dawn. They did a great job when making this mattress with enhanced supportive coils on the outer edges of the mattress. When you are sitting on the edge of the bed you will feel pretty supported. We also felt it was easy to sleep on the edge of the bed without feeling like you were going to fall off.
Does the Helix Dawn Sleep Cool?
We didn’t really feel hot or cold with the Helix Dawn, instead, we felt the Dawn maintained a temperature neutral sleep experience. If you are a hot sleeper you may wish to check out our top picks for the best cooling mattresses.
Another option for those with their heart set on the Helix Dawn would be pairing it with a cooling accessory such as the Pod Pro Thermo Cover. It’s hands down a must-have for hot sleepers and designed to fit a wide variety of mattress profiles.
Helix Dawn Purchase Details
Helix offers a 100-night trial on all of their mattresses. It is pretty straight forward if you don’t like the mattress after trying it for 30 days you can call them and arrange for a return. The 30 day break-in period is pretty standard for the bed in a box industry. Adjusting to a new mattress can take time. After the mattress is picked up they will process your refund.
Shipping and Returns
Shipping and returns are free when you purchase a Helix mattress. Still, returning a mattress can be a real pain. Still, one of the best features Helix offers is the additional layer if you are feeling your mattress is not right. We highly encourage customers to try this option prior to returning the mattress entirely. Mattresses pose a serious environmental concern as they fill up landfills. This option is a step in the right direction to limiting mattress waste.
All standard Helix mattresses come with a 10-year warranty, which is very typical for the mattress industry. If you are looking for a longer warranty you might want to take a look at their Luxe models. Luxe Helix mattresses include a 15-year warranty.
Mattress Sizing and Price
Something that stands out with Helix is they recognize our support system by offering a 15% discount to military, first responders, and teachers. Furthermore, if you are a student you will also get hooked up with 15% off.
Not only is there the possibility of a discount Helix is also priced very well! Finding a Queen size hybrid for less than $1,000 is unusual, especially one made as well as the Helix Dawn.
Also, those wishing to finance a mattress have 2 options available. Helix works with Klarna to offer financing for as low as 0% APR. Have poor credit? No worries, Helix also offers checkout with Katapult which does not require a credit check. For more details visit helixsleep.com.

Helix Dawn Mattress Review Conclusion
Helix Sleep offers a wide variety of mattresses. The Helix Dawn is their firmest model and is best suited for back, stomach, and combination sleepers. The Dawn does have a Luxe upgrade option which provides enhanced lumbar support and increases the mattress profile height by 2 more inches.
We did find the Dawn was a bit softer than advertised on the website. We experienced nice pressure-relief without sinking deeply into the mattress. Surprisingly, we did not feel the coils. This was a pleasant surprise as we have noticed some uncomfortable pressure points where the springs push back from other hybrid options. Overall, we have really enjoyed the Helix Dawn and look forward to reviewing more of their model lineup in the future.
