Zoned Hybrid Support in the Casper Nova
The Casper Nova is a wonderfully plush mattress that we think is likely to please a large audience, but is especially good for side sleepers. Like the Casper Original, the Nova features zoned construction, meaning it could be a good option for shoulder pain sufferers.
In addition to each Casper mattress being made in the U.S.A., more specifically in Georgia and Pennsylvania, they are all CertiPUR-US certified. This means there wont be any cancer causing gasses being released from the foam because they are rated to have a low V.O.C. Lets take a look at whats inside:
- Soft Stretchy Cover: Wonderfully soft to the touch and stretchy, the cover allows the layers below to move with your body. It stretches 4 ways to allow optimum movement and contouring below. There is also an added plushness to the cover that gives a cloud like feel when first laying on it.
- Airscape™ foam: This is a perforated layer that allows air to flow through the mattress keeping you cool at night. It has a quick response, when you press on it, making it easy to move around on the bed.
- Zoned Airscape™: Three areas of support are designed to alleviate the common pressure points when sleeping on a mattress. There is softer foam under the shoulders and feet and firmer foam at your hips, waist and lower back.
- Zoned Support™ Pro: Very unique in the industry, this layer has channels that are cut out to provide extra pressure relief. There is a large surface of channels at your shoulders and legs and a smaller surface under your hips. With the three different sections of channels it actually provides 7 different zones of support/pressure relief.
- Resilient Springs: Individually wrapped coils provide a great base support for the Casper Nova mattress. They have added strength for the outside rows of coils for better edge support.
Firmness and Feel Of The Casper Nova Hybrid
The Casper Nova mattress has a wonderfully plush feel that works particularly well for side sleepers, but is also a solid choice for back and combinations sleepers. Zoned construction sets Casper apart from the competition, providing a balanced blend of support and pressure relief.
They combined two layers of zoned support to create a unique feel that could be a good choice for anyone who suffers from shoulder pain. They work together nicely, however, at times we did feel the zones underneath. This was more when we were sleeping on our side. Stomach sleepers might find this mattress too soft. On a scale from 1-10 we rate this mattress at a 5.5, with the mattress providing more of a medium-soft feel.
Is The Casper Nova Hybrid Good For Couples?
Motion transfer can make make or break your sleep experience, especially if you have a particularly restless partner. The better a mattress isolates motion, the less likely you are to be disturbed during your sleep. While we experienced very little motion transfer it is not the best we have ever seen. It’s definitely better than most coil mattresses we have tried though, but if you really want no motion at all you might want to think about getting an all memory foam mattress.
Edge support is another important consideration for couples, especially if you are a sharing a queen or full-size mattress. This allows you to utilize the whole bed without feeling as if you are going to fall off. The edge support on the Casper Nova was pretty good, they have added extra support in the coils on the outside of the mattress, enhancing the edge support.
Do I need a Specific Mattress Foundation for Casper?
Most bases and foundations should work with your Casper mattress. In general it is always advisable to stay away from slatted bases with slats more than 2″ apart as this can cause your mattress to dip and sag between slats. If purchasing Casper’s metal frame they do NOT advise placing the mattress directly on the frame. Instead, Casper recommends using any modern box spring or foundation, in combination with it.
How Much Does The Casper Nova Hybrid Cost?
As far as pricing, the Casper Nova is not the cheapest mattress we have tested, however, its not the most expensive either. Its definitely a little more than the average hybrid mattress, however, Casper frequently runs various deals and discounts throughout the year. Casper Mattress Sleep Trial and Return Policy
Casper provides 100 nights for you to try their mattresses. If you don’t end up liking it you can return it for a full refund within that time period. Having a good sleep trial is so important because even if you have the opportunity to try a mattress in the store it’s just not long enough to know if you like the mattress.
That being said, you need to give yourself time to adjust to your new mattress. Make sure you give it at least two weeks before you make a final decision. Casper, like many of the online mattresses companies, offers free shipping and returns.
Casper Mattress Warranty
Casper Customer Service
Casper, being as large as they are, seem to provide great customer service. After reading through many of the customer reviews online, purchasers appear pleased with their shopping experience, even if they weren’t pleased with the bed. This is very important because even though a company says free returns they can certainly drag out the process making it a pain for you.
Casper is also highly rated on Amazon with an average of 4.6 stars out of 5.
Is Casper Right for you?
While only you can decide if the Casper Nova Hybrid is right for you, we can help you understand who this mattress is best suited for. While we think this mattress could be a good fit for back and combination sleepers, where the Nova really excels is relieving pressure when sleeping on your side.
Light-weight sleepers, as well as hot sleepers are likely to get along with the Casper Nova as well. Perforated holes and grooved channels compliment the individually wrapped coils to enhance breathability and regulate temperature.
Unfortunately, we don’t think this likely to be the best fit for stomach sleepers. If this is your preferred sleeping position we would recommend checking out Amerisleep or Level Sleep as both brands offer firmer mattresses to help keep your hips lifted.
